Bears, Steelers Draw Early Action
As noted above, there are bigger games on the schedule than Minnesota Vikings vs. Chicago Bears – the Monday night game – and Pittsburgh Steelers vs. New York Jets.
But BetMGM trading manager Christian Cipollini noted those two games drew interest following the May 14 schedule release.
"The Bears have moved from slight underdogs to slight favorites based on action so far," Cipollini said, noting a flip from Vikings -1.5 to Bears -1.5 (-105). "Steelers -3 has gotten action so far, too. I'd imagine that is based off the potential QB addition.
"If Pittsburgh adds Kirk Cousins or Aaron Rodgers, that line likely moves to -3.5."
No surprise, the Thursday night game on Sept. 4 is seeing early interest, too.
"The Cowboys-Eagles opener has been the most popular, with mixed betting so far," Cipollini said.
While action will slow significantly over the summer, the initial burst 3.5 months before the regular season shows never too early for bettors to get into the NFL odds Week 1 market.
"The NFL is king. It's always our most popular and most-bet-on sport," Cipollini said. "Even knowing their money will be tied up for months doesn't stop players from betting NFL games early."

How To Bet On The NFL
Betting on the NFL can seem simple, but there are some nuances to be aware of. Make sure to check out our football betting guide and how to bet on the Super Bowl pages for more in-depth information outside of the bet types listed below:
Point Spread Betting
Spread betting gets a bit more advanced than just "who's going to win", and requires you to have a solid knowledge of how a team might perform. For example, let's say Green Bay is listed as +3.5 (-110). That means that, in order for your bet to pay out on those -110 odds, the Packers need to either win the game or not lose by 4 points or more.
Moneyline Betting
Whether you're betting the Super Bowl futures or betting on a team to win tonight's game, you're probably looking at a moneyline. This is typically a straightforward "who's going to win" bet:
EXAMPLE: PHILADELPHIA (+600) TO WIN THE 2025-26 SUPER BOWL
Let's say the Eagles are listed as a 6/1 betting choice to win the Super Bowl. If you wager $100 on Philly to win Super Bowl 60 and they capture the championship, then you would win $600 (6/1 x 100). Your online betting account would then credit your account $700, which includes your win and stake ($100). However, if you're benefitting from a bonus betting credit, that doesn't count towards your stake, and you'll only receive your win.

Totals Betting (Over/Under)
If you're betting totals, and you're probably seeing a pattern here, you're betting on the total number of points scored. These bet types are pretty logically named, no? Anyway, if you're betting on a Packers v. Bears matchup and the total is set at over or under 48.5, that means that oddsmakers don't expect the cumulative score earned by both teams to exceed 48. If it does, and you bet the OVER, you get a payout. If it doesn't and you bet the UNDER, you get a payout.
Parlay Betting
Parlay betting is not for the feint of heart, as we've said: it requires you to string together anywhere from 3-12 (and sometimes more) bets for a bigger payout. The only trick? Every single leg has to hit, otherwise you lose it all.
We're also seeing one-game or single game parlays on the board lately, and that's in large part due to the advent of live betting.
Prop Betting and Live Betting
Prop betting is a form of casual bet that doesn't really have to do with the outcome of a game. For example, you can have the more technical prop bets like "player to exceed X passing yards before the half" or "team to intercept before the quarter is finished". You can also have less technical bets like "color of Gatorade dumped on the coach", "will the mascot trip down the stairs today", or any number of novelty bets.
Throw in the fact that legal, online betting can be done from a mobile device, and live betting becomes possible: that's where you can place prop bets, including parlaying them together in single-game parlays, as the game is happening. Exciting times we live in!

What Teams Can I Bet On?

VegasInsider Open and Consensus
NFL Opening Line
One of the best features on the NFL Vegas Odds is the Open Line. This numbers consists of the first betting line received from one of our preferred sportsbooks. The opening line varies depending on the sportsbook, but the figure provides a clear-cut rating as determined by the oddsmakers. If you’re betting on the NFL or any other sport, it’s a great idea to view the open line first.
VI Consensus NFL Line
The VegasInsider.com Consensus NFL Line is just as important as the Open Line and also a key resource on odds platform. The Consensus column could be called a “Median Line”, since it shows the most consistent number provided by the sportsbooks on VegasInsider.com. The consensus line will be the same as the open line but once the wagers start coming in, this number is often different than the openers.
NFL Odds FAQ
Why Would You Bet On Negative NFL Odds?
Negative NFL odds indicate that the bet is the favorite, which would lead to a lower payout. Positive NFL odds indicate an underdog bet, leading to a higher payout. Sometimes, taking a bet on the favorite makes sense if you don't see a clear path for the underdog to upset the expected result.
How Are NFL Odds Determined?
NFL odds are determined by professional oddsmakers employed by the top sportsbooks. Online betting odds usually reflect what is determined by oddsmakers at the nation's top casinos, many of which are in Las Vegas.
How Do I Read NFL Odds?
Reading the NFL odds is simple. Whether you're looking at totals bets, props, moneylines, or spread betting, the negative number indicates the favorite (and a lower payout) and the positive number indicates the underdog (and a higher payout). When betting the spread, there are also smaller numbers indicating the point difference, and for totals, the total number of expected points.
Who Are The Favorites To Win The NFL?
The Philadelphia Eagles won Super Bowl 59 and have opened as a +600 choice to repeat in Super Bowl 60. They are currently the favorites to win Super Bowl 60.

How Can I Win Betting On The NFL?
NFL betting is very involved and the lines are some of the most accurate in the market. As always, there's no guarantee for a winning strategy, but looking for value in less popular player props, underdogs with an improving record, and of course using the expert resources here at VegasInsider are a good start.
What Is A Point Spread In NFL Betting?
A point spread in NFL betting looks at the performance of a team regardless if they win or lose. A losing team can still win a point spread bet by "covering" the spread, and earning at least as many points as is set by the spread.
