NBA Betting Odds & Preview for Tuesday – Pelicans at L.A. Lakers

Stars to Come out for Zion and Pelicans vs. Lakers on TNT Tuesday!

Tuesday night will certainly epitomize what the NBA is all about when rookie sensation Zion Williamson and his New Orleans Pelicans take on LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers. It’s all about star power, baby!

It is easy to call Williamson “The Franchise” but it hardly does his presence justice. New Orleans has been completely transformed by the one and done star from Duke. So much so that they are even discussing the possibility of making the Western Conference Playoffs, a thought that was unimaginable before Williamson was in the lineup.

For the Lakers its business as usual. They have a comfortable lead in the Western Conference and are coasting to the playoffs. The only concern is a potential injury to Anthony Davis or LeBron James, which would completely flip the script as it did last year when James was lost in a disastrous second half.

New Orleans Pelicans vs. Los Angeles Lakers Betting Odds Overview

As we saw on Sunday afternoon one of the worst plays on the board in any sport is taking the Lakers as a home chalk. Sure, LA defeated Boston 114-112 but the Celtics left town with the cash as 7.5-point dogs. Laying points with LA is one of the square’s favorite plays dating back to the early 1980’s and the Magic Johnson era. The Lakers opened as eight-point favorites over the Pelicans. Another shootout is expected with the total hovering between 238 and 239 points.

New Orleans Pelicans Current Form

Despite a public that has caught notice, Zion Williamson has vastly improved the value of the Pelicans, at least in the recent short run. New Orleans has visited the payout window in seven of their last 10 games. Five of their last six matchups have soared over the total. The Pelicans have NBA rankings of fourth for scoring offense but they are a concerning 28th for points allowed. New Orleans is coming off a 115-101 win and cover at Golden State as 10-point chalks. New Orleans has closed to within 3.5-games of the Memphis Grizzlies for the final playoff spot in the West.

Los Angeles Lakers Current Form

The Lakers have split their last six games on the board to now stand at 43-12 straight up, 29-25-1 vs. the odds, and 28-27 over the total. Overall NBA metrics have LA ranked seventh for scoring offense and seventh for scoring defense. The Lakers have gone over the total in six of their last nine games. LA leads the Western Conference by five games over the upstart Denver Nuggets.

Pelicans to Watch

SF Brandon Ingram leads New Orleans in scoring with 24.5 points along with 6.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game. He has been held under 18 points per game in his last four outings.

SF Zion Williamson has shown to be a quick NBA study with 22.8 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. Williamson has scored 25 or more points in four of his last five games. He drained 28 in the win at Golden State.

SG Jrue Holiday is averaging 19.4 points with 6.8 assists per outing for the Pelicans. The former UCLA star lit up the Warriors for 23 points and 15 assists. Holiday has had 10 or more assists in four of his last five games.

Lakers to Watch

PF Anthony Davis is the former marquee man of New Orleans that is now the Lakers leading scorer with 26.8 points along with a team best 9.4 rebounds per game. Davis pumped in 32 points with 13 boards in the win over Boston.

SF LeBron James is averaging 25.2 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 10.7 assists per game. He scored 29 with eight rebounds and nine assists against the Celtics.

New Orleans Pelicans vs. Los Angeles Lakers Selection Summary

Staples Center betting value remains the major concern for LA. The Lakers have brought home the bacon in just six of their last 15 as home chalks. By contrast the Pelicans have lost only two of their last 11 games to the spread as a road pup. The Lakers have gone to the cashier’s cage in just one of their last four home games with New Orleans.

Look for Zion and the Pelicans to continue their superior board value in this one.
