Golden State Warriors vs. Utah Jazz Predictions

After finishing first in the West with a record of 52-20 SU last year, Utah stumbled out to a surprisingly mediocre start to this season, as the Jazz went just 8-5 SU and 7-6 ATS across their first 13 contests – despite being favored in all 13 of those matchups.

The Jazz have consistently gained steam since their opening stretch though, considering Utah enters New Year’s Day 17-4 SU and 10-11 ATS across the last 21 games – while leading the league in both scoring and offensive efficiency (115.9 PPG, 1.137 OE).

On the other hand, Golden State stormed out to a triumphant start to the season, as the Warriors cruised into December boasting impressive records of 18-3 SU and 15-5-1 ATS – with 14 of those victories coming by a double-digit margin.

The last few weeks have been relatively shaky for the Warriors though, considering Golden State is just 9-5 SU and 6-7-1 ATS across the last 14 games – despite getting tagged as favorites in 12 of those contests.

I’ll take the over here, as the stage appears to be set for an exciting New Year’s shootout between a Warriors squad that has scored 113+ PTS in three of their last four games – and a Jazz squad that has eclipsed 120+ PTS three times across that same window.

Golden State Warriors Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 27-7
  • ATS: 21-11-2
  • O/U: 11-22-1

After finishing ninth in the West with a record of 39-33 SU last year, Golden State jumped out to a surprisingly strong start to the season, as the Warriors opened with wins in 18-of-20 games – with their only two losses across that span coming by slim margins of four points or less.

Golden State has been slightly less dominant as of late though, considering the Warriors enter New Year’s Day just 9-5 SU and 6-7-1 ATS in the last 14 games – with their five SU losses across that window coming by a hefty average deficit of 8.8 PPG.

Utah Jazz Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 26-9
  • ATS: 17-18
  • O/U: 18-16-1

The Jazz have easily been one of the league’s most consistent squads over the last few seasons, which is mainly derived from a very basic formula – efficient shooting and solid defense.

Utah currently leads the league in both scoring and offensive efficiency (115.9 PPG, 1.137 OE), and when stellar shooting is combined with Utah’s sixth-ranked defensive efficiency rating (1.036 DE) – consistency rarely becomes an issue.

Golden State Warriors vs. Utah Jazz Head-to-Head

The Warriors won two-of-three regular-season matchups against Utah last year, with all three of those matchups soaring over the total set for Saturday’s affair at a lofty average of 240 PPG.

Key Players to Watch

  • GSW: Steph Curry - PG (27.7 PPG, 5.3 REB, 5.9 AST)
  • GSW: Andrew Wiggins - SF (18.8 PPG, 4.6 REB, 1.8 AST)
  • UTA: Donovan Mitchell - SG (25.4 PPG, 3.8 REB, 5 AST)
  • UTA: Rudy Gobert - C (15.6 PPG, 14.9 REB, 2.3 BLK)

Golden State Warriors vs. Utah Jazz Betting Conclusion

After a lengthy three-day break due to recent postponements, the Warriors will travel to Salt Lake City on New Year’s Day as narrow road underdogs against the Jazz at Vivint Arena – marking just the sixth time Golden State has been an underdog this season.

I’ll take the over here, as we’re likely in for a high-scoring clash between a pair of squads that previously lit up the scoreboard for an average of 240 PPG across three matchups last season.
