Philadelphia 76ers -3 (-110) vs. MIA

With just a handful of games left to play in the regular season,  the Sixers have very little left to play for, currently stationed 3rd in the Eastern Conference standings with a record of 54-25, which trails the Celtics by two games for the two-seed, and paces the Cavaliers by 2.5 games for the four.

However, Doc Rivers and co. have refused to take their foot off the gas down the stretch, as the Sixers enter Thursday following wins in three of their last four games, which includes tough wins over the Mavericks, Raptors, and Celtics.

Most of the time, once teams can see the light at the end of the tunnel, and comfortable with their position in the playoff picture, we start to see some serious load management in preparation of the long postseason journey; but the Sixers haven’t shown any signs of that as of late, so we’ll probably see their last-minute push for the two-seed continue against Miami on Thursday night.

Contrarily, the Heat have tons to play for at the moment, currently stationed 7th in the Eastern Conference standings with a record of 42-37, but they trail the Nets by just one game for the six-seed, and if they’re able to leapfrog Brooklyn within the next few days, Miami can dodge the dreaded Play-In Tournament.

However, Miami simply hasn’t played well as of late. The Heat have posted a record of 10-12 in their last 22 games, while ranking 24th in the league in net rating during that span (-4.1 NetRtg), and quite frankly, that type of play doesn’t cut it against a Sixers’ squad that owns the best record in the NBA and ranks 1st in net rating since December 9th (40-15, +5.7 NetRtg).

All things considered, Miami needs this win far more than Philly does, but the Sixers own impressive records of 29-11 SU and 25-15 ATS at home, and the Heat are just 16-23 SU and 14-23-1 ATS on the road. Lay the points with Philly in this one.

Nuggets-Suns Under 223.5 (-110)

Speaking of teams with very little left to play for at the moment, the Nuggets and Suns are both pretty much locked into position within the playoff picture, as Denver currently owns a two-game lead over Memphis atop of the Western Conference standings, while Phoenix resides in the fourth slot, trailing Sacramento by four games for the three-seed, yet they also own a comfortable 2.5-game lead over the fifth placed Warriors.

When teams don’t have much left to play for, though, we usually see them slack off at the defensive end and drive up the scores of their contests, however, that’s been far from the case for these two squads.

The Nuggets enter Thursday following losses in eight of their last 14 games, which primarily stems from the fact they fell short of the 110-point scoring mark in half of those affairs (7), ultimately, leading to the total staying ‘under’ in nine of their last ten contests.

While on the other hand, the Suns’ pace of play numbers have been all over the place as of late, considering they’ve racked up 125+ points in three of their last seven contests, however, they averaged just 109 PPG across the other four.

Push comes to shove, Phoenix probably runs away with this one at home, but personally, I still prefer the ‘under’ in Thursday’s matchup between a pair of squads that have combined with their opponents for just 211.5 PPG across their last four contests, respectively.

Shaedon Sharpe (POR) Over 23.5 Points

At this point, the Trail Blazers have officially waved the white flag on the season, currently stationed 13th in the Western Conference standings with a record of 33-46, which trails the Thunder by 4.5 games for the final Play-In Tournament spot, and just recently, they elected to shut down Damian Lillard for the remainder of the year, so Portland is really scraping the bottom of the barrel now.

However, due to the recent status of this Blazers’ squad, rookie Shaedon Sharpe has sprung onto the scene in a big way for Portland as of late, considering he enters Thursday having scored 24+ points in six of his last eight outings, with three of those performances ringing in at 27+ points.

So, I’ll back Sharpe to have another solid night in the scoring department in Thursday’s matchup against a Spurs’ squad that ranks dead-last in defensive rating and 2nd in pace (119.9 DRtg, 101.4 PACE).
