As the build up to the upcoming NBA season is in full swing, our team at VegasInsider analyzed fine data to uncover which players and teams were hit hardest financially for disciplinary actions throughout the season.

Using data from Spotrac, we tallied individual and team fines for the current season and reviewed fine totals going back a decade. The results revealed some surprising (and some not-so-surprising) offenders.

Key Takeaways:

  • This amounts to the 4th largest single fine in the last ten years.
  • Miami Heat was fined the most - $5,895,810 over 22 infractions
  • Philadelphia 76ers are the most fined team of the last ten years - $19,909,115.00
  • 76ers have now overtaken Brooklyn Nets in this category

Jimmy Butler Tops the List of Most Fined NBA Players

Jimmy Butler was the most fined NBA player in the 2024/25 season, racking up a whopping $5.69 million across just three infractions. This eye-watering total ranks as the fourth-largest single-season fine in the past decade, with the bulk likely stemming from a major incident or suspension.

Butler was followed by Bobby Portis, who lost nearly $2.87 million due to five violations. Joel Embiid, Anthony Edwards, and Isaiah Stewart rounded out the top five.

Interestingly, Anthony Edwards and Dillon Brooks both had over 20 infractions, yet their total fines were significantly lower than Butler’s, highlighting how the nature of the infraction can drastically impact the fine amount.

76ers and Nets Have Been the Most Fined Teams of the Last Decade

When looking at the last ten years, the Philadelphia 76ers lead the league with nearly $19.91 million in fines over 390 infractions. The Brooklyn Nets are a close second at $19.2 million, with much of that total previously linked to Kyrie Irving’s off-court controversies. Notably, the 76ers have now overtaken the Nets as the most fined team of the last ten years.

The Memphis Grizzlies, Miami Heat, and Golden State Warriors round out the top five. Notably, the Warriors had the highest number of infractions over the last decade at 528, though their total fine amount was lower than others on the list—suggesting frequent but lower-level penalties.
