NBA: Thunder vs. Pacers Pick & Prediction

NBA: Thunder vs. Pacers Pick & Prediction

The Thunder won game two in convincing fashion, but the Indiana Pacers were surely happy to escape Oklahoma City with a split.

There are plenty of notable storylines for this pivotal game three, but none are bigger than whether the Pacers can continue to hang around and potentially steal another game in front of their raucous home crowd.

Below, we have a preview and prediction on what you can expect for this potentially exhilarating NBA Finals matchup.

OKC @ IND Odds

If there’s one thing that’s true about this version of the NBA, it’s that the game is in the midst of a transition. After the Boston Celtics Big Three (really big four with Rajon Rondo) and the Miami Heat’s superteam constructions, the NBA was all about chasing superstars and superteams.

However, as the new CBA has fully come into effect, the depth and quality of role players are more important now than it has been in recent years.

The Thunder have as loaded an eight-man rotation as you’ll see with guys like Alex Caruso and Aaron Wiggins, who’d seemingly be getting starter-quality minutes on most other NBA teams, coming off the bench.

On the other hand, the Pacers have a 10-man rotation, as head coach Rick Carlisle has implemented a system that aims to speed up their opponents and ultimately, outlast them.

A significant part of that rotation has been Obi Toppin. The Dayton product was a disappointment on his first team, the New York Knicks, who miscast him. However, because of his athleticism, length, and his development as a more consistent spot-up shooter, he’s found a home in Indiana.

Toppin turned in a ridiculous game-one performance with five 3s off the bench. He followed it up, going just 1-for-8 from the field in game two, but we’ll look to target him in game three.

OKC’s defense has proven to be absolutely relentless, especially at the rim. However, because of their ability to limit penetration in the middle of the floor and generate elite rim protection, they’ve had a propensity to allow corner threes. And they’re happy to live with the results of wings like Aaron Nesmith and Toppin beating them from a distance.

You can target Obi Toppin to knock in two 3s at plus money. The volume will certainly be there, and role players typically tend to raise their level when they perform in front of their home crowd.
