New York Knicks vs. Memphis Grizzlies Picks, Predictions, Odds

Regular season NBA action will resume on Wednesday night with a compelling non-conference battle between the New York Knicks and Memphis Grizzlies. Coverage begins from FedExForum in Memphis at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.

NEW YORK KNICKS vs. MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES BETTING PREDICTION

The Grizzlies’ regular-season dominance was one of the biggest surprises in the league last year, as Memphis finished second in the West with a record of 56-26, which tied the Grizzlies’ 2012-2013 squad for the best record in franchise history. They played well in the first round of the playoffs too, as the Grizzlies knocked off a tough Minnesota squad in six games to open the postseason. However, their youth was on full display against Golden State in the following round, as the Warriors jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the conference semis, and the fate of the series was never really in doubt.

The Knicks, on the other hand, were one of the league’s biggest surprises for all the wrong reasons last season, as New York finished 11th in the East with a record of 37-45, which was quite the disappointment after finishing fourth in the conference with a record of 41-31 the year prior.

These squads performed on opposite sides of the spectrum last season, and it showed in their ATS records, as the Grizzlies were the best team in the league against the spread with a record of 52-29-1 ATS, while the Knicks significantly underperformed with a record of 39-43 ATS. So, I feel comfortable laying the points with Memphis at home on opening night.

Score Prediction: Grizzlies 116, Knicks 106

NEW YORK KNICKS BETTING ANALYSIS

The Knicks entered last season with sky high expectations after finishing fourth in the East the year prior, and while personally, I expected to see some regression from the Knicks, I didn’t think they would regress quite as much as they did last year, as New York finished 11th in the conference and missed the Play-In Tournament after earning homecourt advantage in a playoff series last year.

The Knicks experienced their fair share of health issues last season, but no worse than some of their counterparts in the East. Ultimately, it’s a make-or-miss league, and New York just missed a ton of shots last season, as the Knicks finished the year ranked 27th in team shooting percentage 26th in effective field goal percentages (47% FG, 51% EFG), and it’s tough to win games that way.

MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES BETTING ANALYSIS

Memphis was the betting’ sweetheart of the NBA last season, as the Grizzlies posted the best ATS record in the league by a comfortable margin at 52-29-1, with the Thunder (48-30-4), Mavericks (47-33-2), and Raptors (46-35-1) standing next in line in that department.

Aside from Ja Morant, the Grizzlies don’t have many flashy names on their roster, but don’t doubt this young up-and-coming Memphis squad. They played tremendous basketball at both ends of the floor last season, as the Grizzlies finished the year ranked fifth in team offensive rating and fourth in team defensive rating (114.6 ORtg, 109 DRtg), so I expect them to outrun inefficient offenses like the Knicks with relative ease.
