Pacers vs Celtics Picks & Prediction

The Celtics dodged a bullet in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals by outlasting the Pacers in overtime, 133-128.

Indiana managed the cover as 9.5-point underdogs, but probably should be up 1-0 in the series. The Pacers turned the ball over in the final 10 seconds up by three points, then Jaylen Brown sank a corner three-pointer to tie the game and force five extra minutes of action.

The Celtics outscored the Pacers in overtime, 16-11 to win their third straight playoff series opener. This marked the first time that Boston to win a Game 1 by double-digits, although Boston led by 13 late in the third quarter.

Brown and Jayson Tatum combined for 62 points, while Jrue Holiday put up 28 points in the victory for Boston. Tyrese Haliburton led a balanced Indiana attack with 25 points as the Pacers lost to the Celtics for the fourth time in six tries this season.

Boston has failed to cover three consecutive games, although two of those ATS defeats came as a double-digit favorite. The two playoff losses for the Celtics each occurred in Game 2's following a Game 1 victory against Miami and Cleveland.

However, those two series opening wins came in convincing fashion by 20 against Miami and 25 against Cleveland before stubbing their toe in Game 2.

There shouldn't be any kind of letdown for Boston in Game 2 following the close shave in Game 1 as the Pacers played well enough to win but just couldn't finish the job.

Indiana owns a 1-3 ATS record in the playoffs off a cover as an underdog, while also posting a 1-3 ATS mark during the season off a cover as a 'dog of eight points or more.
