New York lawmakers passed the necessary legislation for legal mobile sports betting in the state back in April. The New York Gaming Commission (NYGC) made it official on Nov. 8 by approving nine mobile sportsbook operators.

One of the legal US sportsbooks at the top of the list was BetMGM. Its parent company, MGM Resorts International already has gaming interests in the state. The Las Vegas casino gaming giant owns Yonkers Raceway and Empire City Casino.

This decision gives BetMGM a conditional license to offer legal online sports betting via its mobile sportsbook app. The affiliation with Yonkers Raceway opens the door to a possible retail sportsbook at Empire City Casino.

The next step of the process was working through the technical logistics to go live, which was no problem for the betting congolmerate. BetMGM New York will go live and online on January 17th, 2022.

New York bettors can expect to find a BetMGM welcome offer through a special bonus promo code. Currently, that bonus is a Risk-Free Bet up to $1,000 in other states with the platform, and will be the same offer when NY goes live on Monday.

The accompanying bonus code can be used to activate this offer when registering for a new BetMGM online sports betting account in New York.

This offer is good for the initial sports bet placed from a new BetMGM online sportsbook account. The amount of that first bet up to $1,000 will be credited back to that account if it is graded as a losing wager.

New customers must be at least 21 years old and physically present in New York to place a real money sports wager.

BetMGM has quickly grown to become the third-biggest legal sportsbook operator in the US based on total market share. The popular mobile betting app is the result of a 50-50 partnership between MGM Resorts and UK-sports betting giant Entain.

As part of the company’s marketing campaign, BetMGM has sponsorship agreements with most of the biggest professional sports leagues in the US market. This includes several strategic partnerships with individual teams such as the NFL’s Tennessee Titans.

Many industry analysts predict that New York has the potential to be one of the biggest legal mobile betting markets in the US. Given its past success, BetMGM remains in prime position to become a major player in the Empire State.
