MLB PLAYER PROP BETS - FRIDAY'S PROPS

Our MLB Player Prop Bets are available for Friday April 26, 2024 and for today's slate, we're focusing on the below matchups:

For the above matchups, our experts have selected MLB Player Prop Bets on the below individuals:

  • Dodgers OF Shohei Ohtani
  • Brewers P Colin Rea
  • Twins P Bailey Ober
Shohei Ohtani Over 1.5 Total Bases (-140)

Paying some juice here, but I think it's definitely worth the squeeze for Ohtani against Chris Bassitt. Ohtani has topped this number in 6 out of his last 8 games, and Bassitt has had major issues vs. left-handed bats. Bassitt has allowed a .465 wOBA, .217 ISO, 59% hard contact, and a 17.9% barrel rate to lefties and is only striking them out at a 12.5% rate. Bassitt's go-to pitch is his sinker (41.8%), and Ohtani has racked up a massive .551 wOBA and .417 ISO against that pitch vs. RHP since the start of 2023. Great spot and one of my favorite bets on the board tonight.

Colin Rea Under 4.5 Strikeouts (-115)

I do not understand this line at all. Rea has not been good this season, sitting at a 14.9% K rate, and he's never been at much higher than 20% for any season in his entire career. He draws a tough matchup vs. the Yankees, who are a well-above-average hitting team vs. RHP with a low K rate (21.3%) thus far. I have Rea projected way under this number, and a lot of things would have to go right for him to get there on the over.

Bailey Ober Over 15.5 Outs (-110)

Ober cruised through 5 innings (15 outs) in less than 60 pitches in his last start before running into trouble in the 6th inning. He ultimately finished the 6th inning (18 outs) in just 82 pitches and easily cashed an over 15.5 outs prop for us in that start.

We are going right back to the well in another plus matchup against the Angels. The Halos are around league average with a 99 wRC+ despite Mike Trout's heroic start to the season. Once teams realize they should just walk Trout until he cools off, this should be an offense that is well below league average with very few power threats in the lineup.

Ober's 2024 statistics are still skewed by an abysmal first start that does not represent his true talent level. He now has consecutive starts of at least 80 pitches and 6 innings (18 outs) on his ledger, and I expect that to be the norm going forward. This is a 2-unit bet for me.

What Are MLB Prop Bets?

MLB props are wagers that can be placed on individual players or events that occur during a baseball game. These bets are typically more specific than traditional bets on the outcome of the game, such as the moneyline, over-under or run-line wagers.

Some common MLB prop bets include:

  • Player Props: These bets focus on individual players' performance, such as how many hits a batter will have, how many strikeouts a pitcher will record, or how many stolen bases a baserunner will attempt.
  • Game & Team Props: These bets focus on specific events that could happen during a game, such as which team will score first, how many total runs will be scored, or whether there will be a home run in the first inning.

Prop bets can be a fun and exciting way to add some variety to your MLB betting. They can also be a good way to target specific players or teams that you have an edge on.

Here is an example of a MLB prop bet:

Will Aaron Judge hit a home run in today's game against the Astros?

This bet is a yes/no proposition, and the odds will depend on how likely the sportsbook thinks it is that Judge will hit a home run. If you think Judge is likely to go deep, you would bet "yes" and collect your winnings if he does hit a home run. If you think he is unlikely to hit a home run, you would bet "no" and collect your winnings if he does not hit a home run.

In the space of gambling and sports betting as a whole, bankroll management is a controversial topic. NFL props are easy to get carried away with, so keep in mind you should always bet within your means and set aside money you are comfortable losing.
