Cavaliers vs Magic Picks & Prediction

I’m no stranger to the idea of homecourt advantage playing a crucial role in the NBA Playoffs. However, it seems to be playing a bigger role than usual in this series.

As we enter Game 6, the home team has won all five matchups between the Cavaliers and Magic – and most of the games haven’t been overly competitive, with the visiting team owning a combined point differential of -86 in those five contests.

The most recent meeting between these two teams, however, was easily the tightest matchup of the series thus far – and it was the Magic who nearly escaped with the first road win in a thrilling 104-103 loss at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Game 5.

The Magic lost their first two road games of the series by double digits, which certainly isn’t anything to write home about. But on the bright side, it doesn’t look all that bad in retrospect, considering those were the 2nd and 3rd-most competitive matchups of the series thus far, despite losing Game 1 by 14 and Game 2 by 10.

Fortunately for the Magic, however, Game 6 is back home in Orlando, and they absolutely dominated in their first two home matchups of this series – winning Game 3 by 38, and Game 4 by 23.

Admittedly, it’s a very small sample size. But the Magic have been the most efficient offense in the league at home this postseason, ranked 1st in team field goal percentage (53.3%) and 2nd in 3-point percentage (39.7%) as they enter their third home game of the playoffs.

The Cavs certainly didn’t help their cause much during their first road trip to Orlando either. In their first two road games of the series, Cleveland averaged just 86 points per game on 42.9% from the field and 23.5% from 3-point territory, which ranks 14th and 16th amongst the 16 teams that punched a ticket to the first round of the playoffs.

Can one of these teams steal a win away from their home arena? The jury is still out on that question in general. But based on what we saw from the Cavs in their first two road games of this series, I definitely wouldn't count on Cleveland winning one. I’ll lay the points with Orlando at home in Game 6.
