UPDATE: State Sen. Joseph Addabbo has filed SB 8185, which would legalize online casinos in New York!

The Senate’s Racing, Gaming, and Wagering Committee would have to approve by April 1, 2024, since Addabbo has labeled this a budget issue, which need to be resolved within the first three months of the year in NY.

Keep checking back for updates!

Previously, Addabbo proposed S4856 to legalize online casinos in NY, while Assemblyman J. Gary Pretlow did the same with Assembly Bill A03634, but neither bill made the state's budget.

Most of the NY's neighbors have online casino betting and online poker, and once again, revenues are thought to be lost to out-of-state and offshore gamblers.

We'll keep you up to date with the latest on online casinos and their legality in NY right here!

Best NY Online Casinos TOP NEW YORK CASINOS

Just over a week after the ball dropped in Times Square to ring in the new year 2022, New York launched mobile sports betting. Legalizing and launching mobile sports betting in New York was a massive step forward for the state, but one thing was noticeably missing: online casinos.

The state has offered in-person casinos for years, but the absence of online casinos could prove to be costly for the state.

NY will almost certainly work to launch online casinos soon, and then you'll be able to play all your favorite casino games for real cash.

For now, the in-person options will have to suffice for gamblers. Luckily, there are plenty!

In-person casinos have operated in New York for over three decades. Below, you'll find a list of the top in-person casinos the state has to offer and their affiliated sportsbook partner, if applicable.

  • Tioga Downs
  • del Lago Resort and Casino
  • Point Place Casino and Sportsbook
  • YBR Casino and Sportsbook
  • Turning Stone Resort Casino
  • Rivers Schenectady
  • Resorts World Catskills
  • Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino
  • Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino
  • Seneca Allegany Resort & Casino

New York also has several "racinos," or racetrack-casinos throughout the state, most notably Empire City Casino and Saratoga Casino and Raceway.

GOVERNOR HOCHUL LOOKING TO ADD NYC-AREA CASINOS

New York Governor Kathy Hochul proposed the addition of three casinos in her state budget plan for the 2023 fiscal year.

The plan is to add three casinos to Downstate New York (New York City, Long Island, and Westchester), but we will see how licensing, applications, and approvals go.

If you've already been enjoying the online sports betting launch in New York, you're familiar with that signup process. Thankfully, signing up for an online casino is not much different.

  1. Navigate to your desired casino's app or website

No online casinos are currently available to New Yorkers, but based on the projected economic benefit and relative ease with which they can be implemented, online casinos will almost certainly make their way into New York in the near future.

As previously mentioned, a handful of sportsbook operators launched their mobile platforms in the Empire State a week after we welcomed 2022. Many sportsbook operators offer casino games in their apps, so we'll take a look at some potential online casinos coming to NY.

FANDUEL CASINO

Fanduel Casino Logo

As is expected from the industry leader, FanDuel boasts a robust and user-friendly online casino. Its graphics and smooth interface set the bar extremely high, and it is not hyperbole to call it a visual masterpiece.

FanDuel also offers next-to-unbeatable promotions. It cycles through a variety of promotions throughout the year, but it currently offers Bet $5, Get $150 in Bonus Bets - Guaranteed!!

There is a wide selection of games to choose from, so players don't have to worry about being stuck with simple slot machines. There's even an option for live casino games, where players reap the benefits of a video live stream as they sit at the blackjack table, roulette table, and more!

DRAFTKINGS CASINO

DraftKings Casino Logo

Similarly to its fiercest competitor, DraftKings provides a hardy offering of casino games. A fair way to think of the DraftKings casino is as FanDuel-lite.

It offers a comparably user-friendly interface and wide selection of games, but FanDuel has a slight edge in each category. Nonetheless, the DraftKings brand is equally as reliable and will ultimately provide a great online casino experience.

DraftKings' sign-up bonuses normally consist of a deposit match, although not always 100%, and their games operate at a high level thanks to its partnership with IGT.

BETMGM CASINO

BetMGM Casino logo

Rounding out the sports betting and gaming industry's Big Three is BetMGM casino. While BetMGM's mobile sportsbook may be a slight step down from the two aforementioned sports betting giants, its online casino is no slouch.

It offers live casino options, which are a premium in the online casino space. On top of the 26 table games like black jack, roulette, and baccarat, BetMGM offers 14 jackpot slot games, totaling about 40 games for its users.

BetMGM's X-factor is its welcome offer: Exclusive Offer: Get a 20% Deposit Match up to $1,600 in Sports Bonus!!

BETRIVERS CASINO

BetRivers Casino Logo

BetRivers Casino is one of the best available casinos to prospective gamblers, and it's backed by the reputable Rivers brand.

It truly follows suit as a reliable online casino option for users. Native New Yorkers may already be familiar with BetRivers as the Rivers brand operates the sportsbook and casino in Schenectady.

Like its competitors, it offers a myriad of table and slot games, and it even has a rewards program. Rewards programs typically offer players free spins or coins that can be used to play certain casino games.

Upon signup, new users can 2nd Chance Bet: Get up to a $500 Bonus Bet! This places BetRivers near the top of the industry regarding welcome offers.

RESORTS WORLD CASINO

Resorts World is another familiar name to New York gamblers as it operates Resorts World Catskills in one of the tri-state area's most popular vacation destinations.

While New Yorkers may be familiar with the Resorts World name, most are unfamiliar with the mobile app because it has only been available in Nevada. That will change soon and when the sportsbook app launches, we'll likely see a full revamp of its mobile platform.

It's hard to predict what the online casino will look like in the mobile app, assuming the casino is part of the app, but it will likely offer a variety of table games and slot games. It's possible they offer live casino features as well.

Promotional deals will also probably include a deposit match or risk-free period.

Best NY Casino Games | New York Casino Games AVAILABLE CASINO GAME TYPES

In just about every available online casino app, New Yorkers will find table games and slot games. Live dealers for table games would be an added benefit, but it's not a guarantee.

Table games usually include blackjack, roulette, baccarat, craps, and more. Poker is considered a table game, but poker games ordinarily reside in a separate section of the app, or in a different app altogether.

The biggest selection for most online casinos comes in the form of slot games. Whether it's the creative names, chance for lottery-like winnings, or the thrill of virtually spinning wheels and pulling levers, users love slot games.

Online casino games are fairly straightforward and some even have demo modes for users to learn the game before they play. The biggest variable from casino to casino is typically the size of their offering.

CUSTOMER SERVICE AND PAYMENT OPTIONS

Customer service and payment options vary to a degree by operator, but there are a handful of features that are fairly standard. Because online casinos are not yet legal or operational in NY, we'll cover what players can typically find in a run-of-the-mill online casino.

CUSTOMER SERVICE

Almost all online casinos provide an FAQ page for users to browse, a phone number to call, or an email to submit questions to. Most common questions can be answered on the FAQ page.

Live chatting is usually the most well-received option for users, but not all gaming operators provide it.

Customers often want immediate answers when it comes down to money, and rightly so. Customer support services can help solve deposit and withdrawal issues, answer bonus-eligibility and rewards questions, and much more.

For New Yorkers, having a slew of top-notch brands looking to enter the online casino market in their state will likely result in well-equipped customer support.

LEGALITY OF CASINOS AND ONLINE CASINOS IN NY

UPDATE: In early 2024, state Sen. Joseph Addabbo filed a bill that would legalize iCasinos. Stay tuned for more updates!

Gambling in New York isn't quite black and white. There are 11 Vegas-style casinos where in-person gambling is legal. Seven are owned and operated by Indian nations and four are private commercial casinos licensed by the state

Governor Hochul has a plan to grant three additional casino licenses and she is able to do so thanks to an amendment on that state's constitution from 2013 that allows up to seven casino licenses outside of the Indian nations casinos.

Online casino gambling is currently illegal in New York, but that could be coming to an end soon.

The push for legal online gambling has gotten even stronger since the launch of online sports betting. The now-legal sportsbook operators in New York also have reputations for successful online casino gaming, and the state would greatly benefit from the tax revenue.

The legalization process for online casinos should be a bit easier than online sports betting and even the in-person casino expansion because it does not require an amendment to the state's constitution.

If and when online casinos become legal in NY, licensed operators will need to partner with commercial operators to offer casino websites.
