San Diego Padres vs. San Francisco Giants Betting Predictions

The San Diego Padres enter this matchup second in the NL West, one and a half games behind the Dodgers for first place. The Padres recently won two of three games against the Phillies and have won three of their last four games. The offense has been productive, averaging 4.34 runs per game. San Diego’s bullpen pitched very well against Philadelphia, shutting them out in two of the three games. Right-handed pitcher Joe Musgrove is expected to start Saturday. Musgrove is 4-0 in seven games this season with an ERA of 2.20 and has given up 36 hits, 11 earned runs, and struck out 47 batters in 45.0 innings.

San Francisco is currently one and a half games behind the Padres for second place of the NL West. The Giants recently took two of three games against the Rockies and have won seven of their last 10 games. The offense has been one of the best in the league, averaging 5.10 runs per game. The bullpen has been a bit inconsistent this season and have given up five or more runs in four straight games. The left-hander Carlos Rodon is scheduled to take the mound Saturday. Rodon is 4-2 in seven games this season with an ERA of 3.49 and has allowed 30 hits, 15 earned runs, and struck out 56 batters in 38.2 innings of work.

These two teams met earlier in the season, with San Francisco winning two of three games. I like the value in the Padres moneyline here in game two. Joe Musgrove has been fantastic this season, holding opponents to two runs or less in all seven of his starts. The Giants are dangerous with their bats, but expect Musgrove to keep this one under control. Backing the Padres moneyline here.

San Diego Padres Betting Analysis

Prior to the results of game one Friday night, the Padres are 24-14 SU, 20-18 ATS, and have an O/U record of 18-20. The total has gone under in four of their last six games when playing on the road against San Francisco. The Padres are 3-6 SU in their last nine games against the Giants. San Diego has gone 10-4 SU in their last 14 road games and 14-7 SU on the road this season.

The Padres scored just five runs throughout their most recent series against the Phillies. On the season San Diego has a batting average of .227 (23rd), on base percentage of .310 (17th), slugging percentage of .354 (23rd), and have scored 165 runs (11th). The third baseman Manny Machado leads the Padres with a batting average of .355 (50-141), seven home runs, and 23 RBIs. First baseman Eric Hosmer is also hitting the ball well with a batting average of .336 (45-134), four home runs, and 24 RBIs.

San Diego’s bullpen has been a big part of the Padres success this season. As a team they are allowing opponents a batting average of .221 (6th), have a WHIP of 1.15 (7th), and have given up 147 runs (8th). Right-handed pitcher Joe Musgrove is expected to start Saturday. Musgrove is 4-0 in seven games this season with an ERA of 2.20 and has given up 36 hits, 11 earned runs, and struck out 47 batters in 45.0 innings. Musgrove went 1-2 in four starts against the Giants last season.

San Francisco Giants Betting Analysis

The third place Giants are right in the mix for the lead of the NL West and have gone 22-15 SU, 18-19 ATS, and have an O/U record of 20-16-1. The total has gone over in seven of their last nine games. Following this trend, the total has gone over in 13 of their last 18 games against San Diego. The Giants are 8-3 SU in their last 11 games and 11-7 SU at home this season.

San Francisco has been hitting the ball well all season. As a team the Giants have a batting average of .248 (6th), on base percentage of .330 (3rd), slugging percentage of .393 (11th), and have scored 189 runs (3rd). The shortstop Thairo Estrada has been one of the Giants best hitters with a batting average of .271 (36-133), two home runs, and 20 RBIs. Second baseman Wilmer Flores has also been bringing in the runs with a batting average of .261 (31-119), three home runs, and 20 RBIs.

The Giants bullpen is struggling to find consistency this season. As a team they are allowing opponents a batting average of .256 (26th), have a WHIP of 1.30 (22nd), and have given up 154 runs (14th). The left-hander Carlos Rodon is scheduled to take the mound Saturday. Rodon is 4-2 in seven games this season with an ERA of 3.49 and has allowed 30 hits, 15 earned runs, and struck out 56 batters in 38.2 innings of work. This will be the first time Rodon has faced the Padres in his career.

San Diego Padres vs. San Francisco Giants Betting Conclusion

I like the value in the Padres moneyline in game-two with Musgrove taking the mound. The Giants will look to win this series with their bats, but should have trouble getting much going on Saturday. Musgrove has been great this season and that should continue in game-two of this series. Backing the Padres moneyline in this matchup.
