Los Angeles Angels vs. New York Yankees Betting Predictions

The Angels enter this matchup second in the AL West standings, four games behind the Houston Astros for first place. The Angels have been in a bit of a slump as of late, losing six straight games including game-one of this series 9-1. Los Angeles struggled to get much going offensively with just seven hits and one RBI on the day. Starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard had a rough outing as well and was pulled in the second inning after giving up seven hits and five runs. Left-handed pitcher Reid Detmers is scheduled to start on Wednesday. Detmers is 2-2 in eight games this season with an ERA of 4.65 and has given up 26 hits, 21 earned runs, and struck out 27 batters in 40.2 innings of work.

The New York Yankees are currently first in the AL East with a five-game lead over the second place Tampa Bay Rays. New York has been battling with injuries over the past couple of weeks, but are weathering the storm and have won five of their last seven games. The Yankees had a quick lead in game-one of this series, scoring four runs in the first inning and nine total. Starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery had a solid outing, allowing four hits and one run through seven innings. The left-hander Nestor Cortes is expected to take the mound Wednesday. Cortes is 4-1 in nine games this season with an ERA of 1.70 and has given up 33 hits, 10 earned runs, and struck out 61 batters in 53.0 innings.

I like the Yankees to cover the runline in game-two after a dominating performance on Tuesday night. Cortes has been one of the Yankees best pitchers and should be able to prevent the Angels from getting much going with their bats. Detmers has been inconsistent for the Angels this season and I expect him to struggle against this Yankees lineup. Not much value in New York moneyline, so I will be backing the Yankees runline in this matchup.

Los Angeles Angels Betting Analysis

After losing to the Yankees on Tuesday the Angels are now 27-23 SU, 25-25 ATS, and have an O/U record of 24-22-4. The Angels are 0-6 SU in their last six games and 7-14 SU in their last 21 games against the Yankees. The total has gone over in six of their last seven games on the road. Following this trend, the total has gone over in eight of their last 10 when playing against an AL East division.

Los Angeles has been hitting the ball very well this season. As a team the Angels have a batting average of .249 (8th), on base percentage of .321 (7th), slugging percentage of .423 (2nd), and have scored 235 runs (4th). Center fielder Mike Trout has been their best hitter with a batting average of .310 (49-158), 13 home runs, and 28 RBIs. The right fielder Taylor Ward is also hitting having a productive season with a batting average of .359, 10 home runs, and 26 RBIs.

The Angels bullpen has been solid this season, but are struggling as of late and have given up five or more runs in five of their last six games. As a team they are allowing opponents a batting average of .223 (7th), have a WHIP of 1.17 (6th), and have an ERA of 3.75 (11th). Left-handed pitcher Reid Detmers is scheduled to start on Wednesday. Detmers is 2-2 in eight games this season with an ERA of 4.65 and has given up 26 hits, 21 earned runs, and struck out 27 batters in 40.2 innings of work. This will be the first time in his career facing the Yankees.

New York Yankees Betting Analysis

The Yankees have been the clear leader in the AL East and are 34-15 SU, 25-24 ATS, and have an O/U record of 21-27-1. The total has gone under in four of the Yankees last six games. Following this trend, the total has gone under in six of their last eight when playing an opponent from the AL West. The Yankees are 18-7 SU at home this season and 31-14 SU when playing as the favorite.

New York’s offense has slowed down over the last two weeks with Josh Donaldson and Giancarlo Stanton both on the injured list. The Yankees have managed without thanks to great work from their bullpen. On the season New York has a batting average of .239 (13th), on base percentage of .316 (10th), slugging percentage of .409 (5th), and have scored 229 runs (8h). Right fielder Aaron Judge has been dominating this season with a batting average of .309 (54-175), 18 home runs, and 37 RBIs.

The Yankees bullpen has been great this season and have picked up the slack with key members of the offense out. As a team they are allowing opponents a batting average of .216 (1st), have a WHIP of 1.07 (1st), and have an ERA of 2.91 (3rd). The left-hander Nestor Cortes is expected to take the mound Wednesday. Cortes is 4-1 in nine games this season with an ERA of 1.70 and has given up 33 hits, 10 earned runs, and struck out 61 batters in 53.0 innings. Cortes has been great this season and recently went 8.0 innings against the Rays and gave up four hits and one run while striking out five batters.

Los Angeles Angels vs. New York Yankees Betting Conclusion

The Angels will look to snap a six-game losing streak in this matchup. Unfortunately for them, Nestor Cortes will be taking the mound for the Yankees. Cortes has been excellent on the hill and has only given up more than two runs once this season. Detmers has thrown a no-hitter this season, but has not been consistent in his other outings. I like the Yankees to cover the runline in this one as Cortes has been too good to bet against.
