Philadelphia Phillies vs. San Diego Padres Betting Prediction

The Philadelphia Phillies enter this matchup third in the NL East standings, eight and a half games behind the New York Mets for first place. The Phillies most recently went 0-2 SU against the Rangers in a two-game series and are 6-4 SU in their last 10 games. Philadelphia struggled to get much going against Texas, scoring just two runs throughout the series. This is not a common trend for Philadelphia as they are averaging 4.6 runs per game, which ranks as the sixth most in the MLB. Designated hitter Bryce Harper has been on a tear this season with a batting average of .326 (76-233), 15 home runs, and 48 RBIs.

San Diego is currently first in the NL West standings, half a game ahead of the second place Los Angeles Dodgers. The Padres completed a three-game sweep against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday and have won seven of their last 10 games. San Diego took care of the Diamondbacks with ease, scoring 17 runs throughout while giving up seven. The Padres have been doing this to teams all season as they rank fifth in runs per game (4.74) and fifth in team ERA (3.42). Third baseman Manny Machado has been one of the Padres best hitters, but missed Wednesday's game against Arizona and is listed as day-to-day (ankle).

The Padres have won two of three games against the Phillies this season. I like that trend to continue in game one of this series. Jos Musgrove has been great on the mound for San Diego while Ranger Suarez has been a bit inconsistent for the Phillies. I don’t expect San Diego to have a huge day with their bats, but do think they do enough damage to get the job done. Backing the Padres moneyline in this matchup.
