Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Atlanta Braves Betting Predictions

Los Angeles enters this matchup first in the NL West standings, one game in front of the second place San Diego Padres. The Dodgers took game-one of this series 4-1 and have won eight of their last 10. Los Angeles was solid on both sides of the ball during Friday’s win. The offense had a productive day with nine hits and four runs. Starting pitcher Julio Urias struck out nine batters in six innings while giving up three hits and one run. The four other pitchers used finished the game allowing a combined three hits and zero runs in 3.0 innings. Right-handed pitcher Tony Gonsolin is scheduled to start Sunday. Gonsolin is 9-0 in 13 games this season with an ERA of 1.58 and has given up 35 hits, 12 earned runs, and struck out 64 batters in 68.1 innings of work.

The Atlanta Braves are currently second in the NL East standings, five and a half games behind the New York Mets for first place. The Braves have won six of their last 10 games but struggled to get much going on Friday with just one run scored against Los Angeles. The offense had just six hits throughout the game and went 0-6 with runners in scoring position. Starting pitcher Ian Anderson struck out six batters in 4.0 innings while giving up six hits and four runs. The other three pitchers used gave up a combined three hits and zero runs in 5.0 innings. The right-hander Spencer Strider is expected to take the mound Sunday. Strider is 3-2 in five starts this season with an ERA of 3.40 and has given up 31 hits, 18 earned runs and struck out 72 batters in 47.2 innings.

The Braves and Dodgers are 2-2 SU against each other this season prior to the results of game-two. I like the Dodgers to take game-three on Sunday. Tony Gonsolin has been dominant this season and it is tough to bet against a guy who is 9-0. Strider has been decent for the Braves this season but tends to only pitch 2.0-4.0 innings per game. Backing the Dodgers here as I expect Gonsolin to add another win to his record this season.

Los Angeles Dodgers Betting Analysis

Prior to the conclusion of Saturday night’s game, the Dodgers are 44-25 SU, 40-29 ATS, and have an O/U record of 29-35-5. The total has gone over in four of the Dodgers last five games. Going against this trend, the total has gone under in four of their last six when playing an NL East opponent. Los Angeles is 1-5 SU in their last six when playing on the road against Atlanta and 24-13 SU on the road this season.

Los Angeles has been hitting the ball very well this season. As a team the Dodgers have a batting average of .253 (6th), on base percentage of .331 (1st), slugging percentage of .428 (4th) and have scored 356 runs (3rd). The first baseman Freddie Freeman has been great this season with a batting average of .304 (82-270), eight home runs, and 45 RBIs. Right fielder Mookie Betts has been a key part of the offense as well with a batting average of .273 (67-245), 17 home runs, and 40 RBIs.

The Dodgers bullpen faced a tough loss on Friday night as setup reliever Daniel Hudson tore his ACL and will be out for the rest of the season. Injury aside, Los Angeles’ bullpen has been excellent. As a team they are allowing opponents a batting average of .216 (2nd), have a WHIP of 1.08 (2nd), and have a team ERA of 2.91 (1st). Right-handed pitcher Tony Gonsolin is scheduled to start Sunday. Gonsolin is 9-0 in 13 games this season with an ERA of 1.58 and has given up 35 hits, 12 earned runs, and struck out 64 batters in 68.1 innings of work. In hist one outing against Atlanta this season, Gonsolin gave up one hit and zero runs while striking out three batters in 6.0 innings.

Atlanta Braves Betting Analysis

The Braves have been playing good baseball in the month of June and are 41-31 SU, 36-36 ATS, and have an O/U record of 38-31-3. The total has gone under in four of Atlanta’s last six games. Following this trend, the total has gone under in four of their last five against the Dodgers. The Braves are 10-2 SU in their last 12 games at home and 18-15 SU on at home this season.

Atlanta’s offense struggled at the beginning of the season but managed to get their bats going with a few adjustments. As a team the Braves have a batting average of .247 (11th), on base percentage of .314 (16th), slugging percentage of .440 (1st) and have scored 343 runs (6th). The right fielder Ronald Acuna Jr is having a solid season with a batting average of .282 (46-163), seven home runs, and 18 RBIs. Shortstop Dansby Swanson has been productive as well with a batting average of .302 (79-262), 12 home runs, and 41 RBIs.

The Braves bullpen has been consistent throughout the season. As a team they are allowing opponents a batting average of .233 (8th), have a WHIP of 1.24 (14th), and have a team ERA of 3.73 (8th). The right-hander Spencer Strider is expected to take the mound Sunday. In his most recent start against San Francisco, Strider gave up six hits and six runs while striking out four batters in 3.2 innings.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Atlanta Braves Betting Conclusion

I like the Dodgers to take game-three on Sunday. Los Angeles is in a bit of pickle with three setup relievers listed on the injured list, but that should not be a problem here with Gonsolin taking the mound. I expect Gonsolin to give Los Angeles six to eight solid innings and setup the closers nicely. With a little bit of help from their offense, it should be smooth sailing for the Dodgers on Sunday night.
