Houston Astros vs. New York Mets Betting Prediction

The Houston Astros enter this matchup first in the AL West standings with a 10 and a half game lead over the second place Texas Rangers. Houston most recently went 2-2 SU in a series with the Yankees and have won seven of their last 10 games. Houston was great in games two and three against the Yankees, holding New York to just one run while scoring six. Games three and four were a bit different as they gave up 13 runs while scoring nine. The Astros have kicked it up a notch over their last 10 games, averaging 5.4 runs per game with a team ERA of 3.1. The left fielder Yordan Alvarez has been a huge part of Houston’s success with a batting average of .312 (72-231), 22 home runs, and 54 RBIs.

The New York Mets are currently first in the NL East standings with a five-game lead over the second place Atlanta Braves. The Mets went 2-1 SU in their most recent three game series with the Miami Marlins and have won six of their last 10 games. New York was solid throughout the series, scoring 12 runs while holding the Mets to nine. This is right around their season averages of 4.93 runs per game and team ERA of 3.86. The first baseman Pete Alonso has been having a fantastic season with a batting average of .281 (76-270), 22 home runs, and 69 RBIs.

Houston has won the last five matchups with the Mets, including two games this season. I like that trend to continue and for the Astros to take game-one of this series. Their offense has been on a tear as of late and Framber Valdez should be able to keep the Mets runs to a minimum. Backing Houston moneyline here in game one.

Houston Astros vs. New York Mets – Current Form

The Astros grabbed two of three games last Sunday against the Chicago White Sox, and with the Yankees they split the series 1-2 last Sunday. In the third contest against the New York Yankees on Saturday, the Houston Astros were in their best form in the last seven games, not allowing the New York Yankees to score one single run. Their best performance was in the first contest of a three-game series, on Friday, when Houston routed the Chicago White Sox by posting 13 runs. New York continues to roll, going 4-2 in its last six games against the Brewers and the Marlins. The Brewers were unable to score a single run against the New York Mets on Tuesday, which was New York’s best result in the last two series. In the most recent six games, the one played on Wednesday against the Milwaukee Brewers was their worst. The New York defense allowed 10 runs.

Houston Astros vs. New York Mets – Pitching Matchup

Houston: Framber Valdez (7-3, 2.90 ERA)

The Astros’ left-hander Framber Valdez owns a 7-3 record and 2.90 ERA in his 14th start of the season. Valdez also posted a 1.13 WHIP, while striking out 75 and walking 31 batters in 87 innings this season. The 28-year-old left-hander didn’t factor in the decision in his last start, when the Astros lost to the New York Yankees on June 23, 2022 on the road. Valdez tossed six innings in the 7-6 defeat by the New York Yankees, while giving up three runs on two hits with seven strikeouts and three walks. Valdez owns a 4-1 road record this season in eight starts away from Minute Maid Park. In those away outings, he has posted a 1.95 ERA, a 0.91 WHIP, 21 walks, and 41 strikeouts in 50.2 innings of work.

New York: Carlos Carrasco (8-3, 4.42 ERA)

New York’ right-hander Carlos Carrasco takes the mound for his 14th start of the season. Carrasco looks to improve on a 8-3 record and 4.42 ERA in 77.1 innings, while striking out 77, walking 18 batters, and posting a 1.29 WHIP. The 35-year-old right-hander couldn’t lift the Mets to win on the road over the Houston Astros on June 22, 2022. In his losing start, Carrasco gave up five runs on four hits with two strikeouts and two walks. Pitching at home this season, Carrasco is 5-0 with a 3.00 ERA, a 1.24 WHIP, 13 walks and 41 strikeouts over 42 innings in seven starts.
