San Diego Padres vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Betting Analysis

The San Diego Padres visit the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium on Thursday, June 30, 2022 for the first of a four-game series.

Despite posting a 25-15 record away from PETCO Park, San Diego is in second place in the National League West with an overall record of 46-31, which trails the first placed Los Angeles Dodgers by 1.5 games. The Dodgers currently pace the National League West with a record of 46-28, which has been aided by their sturdy 20-12 tally at home.

San Diego Padres vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Betting Prediction

The San Diego Padres enter this matchup second in the NL West standings, one game behind the Los Angeles Dodgers for first place. The Padres went 1-1 SU in their most recent series with the Arizona Diamondbacks and are 5-5 SU over their last 10 games. The Padres bullpen struggled in game-one against the Diamondbacks, giving up seven runs. Game two was much better as the Padres managed to pitch a shutout. The offense was solid with six runs scored in game one and four runs scored in game-two. San Diego has relied on their bullpen throughout the season, and they have delivered with a team ERA of 3.48 (5th). The offense struggled to start the season but have picked things up and now average 4.63 runs per game (7th).

Prior to the results of Wednesday night’s game against the Rockies, Los Angeles is currently first in the NL West standings with a one-game lead over the Padres. The Dodgers had lost two straight against the Rockies headed into Wednesday’s matchup but have won six of their last 10 games. Los Angeles’ offense struggled against the Rockies with zero runs scored in game one and four scored in game two. This is not common as the Dodgers are averaging 5.04 runs per game this season (3rd). Los Angeles’ bullpen gave up eight runs to Colorado over the two games, well above their season ERA of 2.99 (3rd). The shortstop Trea Turner has been a key player for the Dodgers with a batting average of .311 (91-293), 11 home runs, and 54 RBIs.

The Dodgers have won two of three matchups against the Padres this season. While I do think Los Angeles is the better team, I like the value in the Padres moneyline in this matchup. Right-handed pitcher Joe Musgrove is expected to get the start and has been one of San Diego’s best pitchers this season. Musgrove is 8-1 this season with an ERA of 2.12 and I expect him to give the Dodgers offense a tough time. Backing the Padres moneyline here.

San Diego Padres vs. Los Angeles Dodgers – Current Form

The Padres lost 3-1 against the Phillies last Sunday, but then went 1-3 to the Diamondbacks in their next game on Wednesday. In the second contest against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday, the San Diego Padres were in their best form in the last six games, not allowing the Arizona Diamondbacks to score one single run. Game four with the Philadelphia Phillies was San Diego’s worst in the last six. They allowed a total of eight runs. Los Angeles captured its series against the Atlanta Braves, 2-1, but the Dodgers fell to the Rockies on Wednesday. Their worst game was on Monday, when the Los Angeles Dodgers failed to score a single run against the Colorado Rockies in the first contest of a three-game series. In Monday’s game, the first of three they played against the Colorado Rockies, the offense of Los Angeles didn’t manage to produce any runs.

The third of three matches on Wednesday marked an eight-run effort by Los Angeles against the Colorado Rockies, which was their best performance this week.

Musgrove looks to improve on a 8-1 record and 2.12 ERA in 85 innings, while striking out 82, walking 18 batters, and posting a 0.95 WHIP. The 29-year-old right-hander couldn’t lift the Padres to a home win over the Philadelphia Phillies on June 23, 2022. In his losing start, Musgrove tossed six innings in the 2-6 defeat by the Philadelphia Phillies, while giving up six runs on seven hits with one strikeouts and one walk. Pitching on the road this season, Musgrove is 5-0 with a 1.72 ERA, a 0.94 WHIP, 11 walks and 45 strikeouts over 47 innings in seven starts.

White received a no-decision in his most recent start against the Atlanta Braves, as Los Angeles’s right-hander surrendered three runs on five hits, two walks, and three strikeouts during the Dodgers’ 5-3 road loss on June 25, 2022.
