Seahawks vs Cowboys Prediction, Picks & Betting Odds for Thursday Night Football Week 13

In the aftermath of the Cowboys’ 45-10 win over Washington on Thanksgiving, a very large (and loud) section of the football community is now bowing down to Dak Prescott and this Dallas offense for scoring 33+ points in four of their last five games as they cruise into Week 13 comfortably positioned in the top Wild Card spot with a record of 8-3.

The Cowboys currently own the fifth-best odds to win the Super Bowl, only behind the Chiefs, 49ers, Eagles, and Ravens. Also, Prescott is now level with Lamar Jackson at the third-best odds to win MVP. And PFN’s latest QB Power Rankings list Prescott No. 2 only behind Patrick Mahomes. However, such a high level of praise for this Dallas team is insane and completely unwarranted in my opinion.

First things first, I’d like to formally congratulate the Cowboys for running up the score on a bunch of below-average opponents in four of their last five games (NYG, CAR, LAR, WAS). Scoring points against professional football teams is no easy feat, and offensive units such as the Patriots and Jets continue to remind us of that every week.

That said, I would also like to remind the jury that the Cowboys got pushed around in a 28-23 loss to Philly during that span, and despite owning a record of 8-3, they still don’t have a win over an opponent with a .500 record or better.

Adamant defenders of the Cowboys will argue that they can only beat the teams on their schedule. However, the fact of the matter is, Dallas has already played two measuring-stick games against the 49ers and Eagles, and came up short in both of those affairs. Granted, the Seahawks aren’t quite on the same level as San Francisco nor Philly, but they are certainly better than the Cardinals and Chargers, and Dallas played close games (or lost) against both of those teams.

On the other side of that same coin, the Seahawks have lost three of their last four games. However, I’m willing to cut Seattle some slack for dropping tough matchups against the Ravens and 49ers, as well as a one-point loss to a division foe in the Rams. Mainly because, prior to their latest skid, the Seahawks stood toe-to-toe and traded punches in matchups against Detroit and Cleveland – and managed to escape with victories. And quite frankly, that’s more impressive than anything Dallas has done this season.

I’m not buying into the recent Cowboys hype. This is the same old Dallas team as years past, almost surely destined to win 12+ games and then get bounced in the first or second round of the playoffs. The Cowboys are laying way too many points in this spot. Seattle is a good football team. I’m taking the touchdown-plus with the Seahawks on Thursday night.

Seattle Seahawks Betting Analysis

According to VegasInsider’s Patrick Everson, the SuperBook closed the lookahead line for this contest at Seahawks +7 last Thursday, but after getting manhandled by San Francisco on Thanksgiving, the line reopened at Seahawks +7.5, and since then has been bet all the way up to +9 or 9.5 at most shops as of Tuesday afternoon, with the book likely rooting for Seattle to cover the number due to all the public love for Dallas.

Dallas Cowboys Betting Analysis

All things considered, when the Cowboys win, they usually win big. Dallas has won eight games this season, and seven of those victories have been blowouts by margins of 20+ points. So, it’s no surprise that many bettors are choosing to disregard the price tag in this matchup and blindly lay the large point total with Dallas.

But the reality is, the Cowboys have been offered very little resistance in the vast majority of their matchups, and Seattle is much better than 9 of 11 opponents that Dallas has faced this season. Are the Seahawks better than Dallas? No. But I still believe they have a puncher’s chance at winning this game. And at the very least, I expect them to keep things somewhat competitive throughout.
