SETON HALL PIRATES VS. VILLANOVA WILDCATS PREDICTIONS
Seton Hall was able to even up its record in the Big East at 6-6 with a straight-up two-point win over Xavier on Wednesday night. The Pirates closed as three-point home favorites. This raised their current SU winning streak to three games after going just 1-4 in their previous five conference games. That slide started on Jan. 13 with a bad loss to DePaul as 6.5-point road favorites.
The Wildcats started 2022 with a New Year’s Day victory over Seton Hall. They beat the Pirates by six points as slight two-point road favorites. With Tuesday’s six-point win against St. John’s as six-point favorites on the road, they are now 11-3 straight-up in Big East play. This is part of an overall record of 18-6 this season. Villanova has just two SU losses in its last 13 games and they both came against Marquette.
Given Seton Hall’s overall struggles this season, I have to go with Villanova as a home favorite both SU and against the spread. The Pirates may have been a bit overrated to begin with and their team depth has been impacted with more than a few names scattered across the latest injury report. The Wildcats need to start playing with a greater sense of urgency with the postseason right around the corner.

SETON HALL PIRATES BETTING ANALYSIS
Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)
- SU: 15-7
- ATS: 10-11
- O/U: 8-13
It is hard to know what to expect from the Pirates in Saturday’s rematch. They have played much more consistent in their last three games, but the overall resume in Big East play is filled with quite a few question marks. Betting Seton Hall highlights this point with a 3-8-1 record ATS through 12 conference games. The total went OVER 141 points in Wednesday’s 73-71 victory after staying UNDER in the previous six games.
With guard Bryce Aiken still sidelined due to lingering affects from a concussion, guard Jared Rhoden continues to elevate his game. He led the way against Xavier with 25 points to boost his 15.8-point scoring average on the year.
Forward Alexis Yetna is averaging 9.2 points and leading the team in rebounds with 7.5. Guard Kadary Richmond is averaging four assists and 1.9 steals to lead the Pirates in those two categories. Guard Jamir Harris has been able to hit 36.2% of his team-high 105 three-point attempts as the team’s biggest outside threats.
Seton Hall is averaging 75.8 PPG while shooting 42.6% from the field and 33.3% from outside the three-point line. The team is pulling down a respectable 40.1 rebounds a game and holding opposing teams to 67.3 PPG.
VILLANOVA WILDCATS BETTING ANALYSIS
Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)
- SU: 18-6
- ATS: 13-11
- O/U: 11-13
The Wildcats appear to be gearing up for another extended postseason run. However, betting this team has not paid any dividends lately at 2-4-1 ATS over its last seven outings. One positive note is Villanova’s 5-2 record ATS in its last seven home games. The total has gone OVER or ended as a PUSH in four of its last six games overall.
With Collin Gillespie going cold against St. John’s on Tuesday night, Justin Moore stepped up his game with 16 points. Both guards have been instrumental in the Wildcats’ success this season. Gillespie has led the way with 16.5 points a game while shooting 44.9% from the field and 42.3% from three-point range. He is the team’s best foul shooter at 91.2%.
Moore is next on that list with 15 PPG. He is converting on 41.5% of his shots from the field and 36.8% of his attempts outside the three-point line. Villanova’s lineup goes six deep with players averaging at least nine points. Forwards’ Eric Dixonand Jermaine Samuels have combined to average 13 rebounds with the team pulling down a total of 35.3 a game.
The Wildcats’ scoring average this season stands at 73.1 points and they are allowing an average of 62 PPG on defense. They are shooting 44.1% from the field and 36.1% from three- point range. This has been one of the top foul shooting teams in the Big East at 82.5%.

SETON HALL PIRATES VS. VILLANOVA WILDCATS BETTING CONCLUSION
Besides not trusting Seton Hall to keep this game close enough to cover, I do think Villanova will play to form at home in Saturday’s game. The Wildcats have won the last four meetings SU and they are 3-1 ATS.
