Data Analysis: The Most Foul-Mouthed & Negative MLB Fandoms

With the 2026 MLB season in full swing, VegasInsider has updated its analysis of the most foul-mouthed MLB fandoms, analyzing over 1 million comments from the subreddits of all 30 MLB fandoms to find out which fans are the most polite and on the contrary, which fandoms are the most foul-mouthed. Additionally, the analysis also uncovered which MLB fandoms are the most positive and which fans are the most negative.
THE MOST & LEAST FOUL-MOUTHED MLB FANDOMS
At first, a sample of comments from the subreddits of the MLB fandoms was collected (tracking the period between April 2025 and April 2026) and subsequently it was analyzed how much % of their comments included swear words.
According to an analysis of 1.264 million comments of all the MLB fandoms, the Athletics were found to be the most foul-mouthed fandom since 6.39% of the comments on their subreddit included swear words. Interestingly, the Athletics were also the #1 most foul-mouthed fandom in last year’s analysis.
The Boston Red Sox turned out to be the second most foul-mouthed MLB fandom (5.114% of their comments included swear words) followed by the Los Angeles Angels in third place with 5.106% of their comments including swear words.
On the other hand, the St. Louis Cardinals were found to be the most polite fandom since only 3.13% of their comments included swear words. The second and third most polite fandoms turned out to be the Baltimore Orioles and the Washington Nationals, respectively - only 3.37% of the comments of the Baltimore Orioles included swear words while only 3.47% of the comments of the Washington Nationals included swear words.

THE MOST NEGATIVE & POSITIVE MLB FANDOMS
Additionally, the emotional tone of each comment was assessed and categorized as either negative, positive or neutral. According to the results of the analysis of 1.264 million comments, the Athletics turned out to be the most “negative” fandom, since 28.23% of their comments had a negative sentiment.
In second and third place as the most negative are the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees, respectively. The Boston Red Sox had 27.6% of negative comments, while 26.47% of the New York Yankees’ comments were categorized as negative.
On the other hand, the top 3 most positive MLB fandoms turned out to be: the Colorado Rockies (46.45% of positive comments), the St. Louis Cardinals (46.36% of positive comments) & the Washington Nationals (45.02% of positive comments), respectively.

METHODOLOGY
- Collection Period: April 2025 - April 2026
- In total, 1,264,177 comments from 30 subreddits of the 2026 MLB fandoms were analyzed, looking for comments that contained swear words
- Each fandom was assigned a percentage value based on the % of the comments on their subreddit that contained swear words
- In total, 52,284 swear words were found
- Each comment was analysed using a sentiment analysis tool VADER that assigns a score and classifies it as positive, negative, or neutral, and these results were then aggregated by team to calculate the proportion of each sentiment
- Additionally, the emotional tone of each comment was assessed and categorized as either negative, positive or neutral
- Minimum number of comments collected per fandom: 4,000
- The final analysis was carried out in April 2026
