San Diego Padres at Los Angeles Dodgers Betting Predictions

The San Diego Padres enter this matchup second in the NL West standings, two and a half games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers for first place. The Padres have lost four of their last five, including game one of this series and are 5-5 SU over their last 10 games. San Diego’s offense struggled against the Dodgers in game one, scoring one run on seven hits. Their bullpen played very well, holding the Dodgers to five hits and three runs. The inconsistency of the offense has lost the Padres a few games this season, but they are still averaging a respectable 4.58 runs per game (9th) this season. Right-handed-pitcher Yu Darvish is scheduled to start Saturday. Darvish is 7-3 in 14 games this season with an ERA of 3.26 and has given up 69 hits, 32 earned runs, and struck out 75 batters in 88.1 innings.

Los Angeles is currently first in the NL West standings with a two and a half game lead over the second place Padres. The Dodgers have won two of their last three games, including game one of this series and are 7-3 SU over their last 10 games. Los Angeles’ bullpen had another great outing in game-one, holding the Padres to one run on seven hits. This has been a common trend this season as the Dodgers bullpen ranks third in the MLB with a team ERA of 2.98. The Dodgers offense had just five hits but were able to take advantage and bring in three runs. The left-hander Tyler Anderson is expected to take the mound Saturday. Anderson is 8-1 in 14 games this season with an ERA of 3.23 and has given up 68 hits, 28 earned runs, and struck out 67 batters in 78.0 innings of work.

The Dodgers have won three of four games against the Padres prior to the results of Friday night’s matchup. Going against this trend, I like the value of the Padres moneyline with Yu Darvish taking the mound. Darvish was able to hold the Dodgers to just one hit and zero runs earlier in the season. While he may not be able to replicate that success, this will be the Padres best shot at a victory. Backing the Padres moneyline in this one.

San Diego Padres Betting Analysis

Prior to the conclusion of game-two on Friday night, San Diego has gone 46-32 SU, 40-38 ATS, and have an O/U record of 34-42-2. The total has gone under in eight of the Padres last 12 games. Following this trend, the total has gone under in six of their last eight when playing an NL West opponent. San Diego is 1-12 SU in their last 13 games against the Dodgers and are 21-16 SU at home this season.

As mentioned before, San Diego’s offensive production has been a bit inconsistent. On the season the Padres have a batting average of .242 (16th), on base percentage of .318 (12th), slugging percentage of .378 (24th) and have scored 358 runs (9th). The third baseman Manny Machado has been a monster for the Padres this season with a batting average of .327 (84-257), 12 home runs, and 46 RBIs. Second baseman Jake Cronenworth has also been productive with a batting average of .248 (73-294), seven home runs, and 43 RBIs.

Unlike the Padres offense, their bullpen has been consistent throughout the season. As a team they are allowing opponents a batting average of .219 (3rd), have a WHIP 1.15 (5th), and have an ERA of 3.48 (5th). Right-handed-pitcher Yu Darvish is scheduled to start Saturday. Darvish is 7-3 in 14 games this season with an ERA of 3.26 and has given up 69 hits, 32 earned runs, and struck out 75 batters in 88.1 innings. In his one outing against the Dodgers this season, Darvish struck out seven batters in 6.0 innings while giving up one hit and zero runs.

Los Angeles Dodgers Betting Analysis

Los Angeles continues to hold onto the lead of the NL West division and are 47-28 SU, 43-32 ATS, and have an O/U record of 30-39-6. The total has gone under in five of the Dodgers last seven games. Going against this trend, the total has gone over in four of their last six games at home. Los Angeles is 7-0 SU in their last seven home games against San Diego and 21-12 SU at home this season.

The Dodgers offense has been giving opposing pitchers a tough time this season. As a team the Dodgers have a batting average of .252 (9th), on base percentage of .328 (1st), slugging percentage of .428 (4th) and have scored 379 runs (2nd). Shortstop Trea Turner has been great this season with a batting average of .305 (92-302), 11 home runs, and 56 RBIs. The right fielder Mookie Betts is also having a solid season with a batting average of .273 (67-245), 17 home runs, and 40 RBIs.

Los Angeles’ bullpen has been one of the best in the league. On the season they are allowing opponents a batting average of .220 (4th), have a WHIP of 1.10 (2nd), and have an ERA of 2.98 (3rd). The left-hander Tyler Anderson is expected to take the mound Saturday. Anderson is 8-1 in 14 games this season with an ERA of 3.23 and has given up 68 hits, 28 earned runs, and struck out 67 batters in 78.0 innings of work. In his one outing against the Padres this season, Anderson gave up two runs on four hits while striking out four batters in 4.2 innings.

San Diego Padres at Los Angeles Dodgers Betting Conclusion

The Padres will look to gain some ground on the Dodgers in the NL West with a win on Saturday. I believe that will be their best chance to do so in this series with Yu Darvish taking the mound. Tyler Anderson for the Dodgers has been solid as well but is coming off his worst outing of the season and struggled a bit against the Padres earlier in the season. Backing the Padres moneyline here as there is some good value at +125.
