Tampa Bay Rays vs. Boston Red Sox Betting Prediction

The Tampa Bay Rays enter this matchup fourth in the AL East standings, 15 games behind the New York Yankees for first place. The Rays lost 4-0 in game-one of this series Monday and are 5-5 SU over their last 10 games. The Rays offense looked horrible in game-one with just two hits on the day. Tampa’s bullpen did not have the best of outings either, giving up 11 hits and four runs. The Rays offense has played poorly much of this season, but even this was bad for a team that normally averages 4.06 runs per game (25th). The bullpen has looked much better than the offense and their team ERA of 3.31 is the fourth best in the league. The left-hander Jeffrey Springs (3-2) is scheduled to get the start on Tuesday.

Boston is currently second in the AL East standings, 13 games behind the New York Yankees for first place. The Red Sox have won six of their last 10 games including a 4-0 win over Tampa Bay on Monday. Boston had their bats working with 11 hits and four runs scored. The Red Sox bullpen had one of their best outings of the season as they held the Rays to just two hits and zero runs. After a slow start, Boston’s offense has turned things around and now average 4.72 runs per game (9th). Their bullpen has done the same and have a team ERA of 3.57 (6th). Right-handed pitcher Nick Pivetta (8-5) is expected to take the mound Tuesday for the Sox.

These two teams seem to be headed in different directions as the season progresses. The Red Sox are adjusting and improving while Tampa is getting worst as the season goes on. I expect Tampa to see a bit more success than they did on Monday, but still expect Boston to win game-two of this series. Backing the Red Sox here.
