Texas Rangers vs. Baltimore Orioles Betting Prediction

The Texas Rangers enter this matchup third in the AL West standings, 15 games behind the Houston Astros for first place. The Rangers have lost six of their last 10 games including games one and two of this series. Texas’s bullpen struggled in the first two games against Baltimore, allowing the Orioles a combined 17 runs in games one and two. The offense has had more success with six runs scored in game one and nine in game two. This is a bit uncharacteristic of the Rangers as the bullpen has been the better of the two throughout the season with a team ERA of 3.95 (16th) while the offense has averaged 4.3 runs per game (17th). The right-hander Glenn Otto (4-4, 5.63 ERA) is expected to take the mound for Texas Wednesday.

Baltimore is currently last in the AL East standings, 21 games behind the New York Yankees for first place. The Orioles have won three straight but have dropped six of their last 10 games. Baltimore has been solid in the first two games of this series, scoring a combined 17 runs while holding the Rangers to 15. The Orioles have been a bit better over their last 20 games with a 12-8 SU record but have struggled throughout the season. The offense is averaging 4.09 runs per game (21st) while the bullpen is rocking a team ERA of 4.05 (20th). The right-hander Spenser Watkins (1-1, 4.61 ERA) is scheduled to start for Baltimore on Wednesday.

I like the Rangers to take game-three of this series, primarily because I do not expect them to get swept. Neither pitcher has been great this season and there is a strong possibility that we see quite a few runs in the first couple of innings based on how this series has been going. Backing the Rangers moneyline here but also see value in backing the over of 9.5 runs.

Score Prediction: Rangers 5, Orioles 4

The Rangers grabbed two of three games last Wednesday against the Kansas City Royals, but were tripped up by the Mets last Sunday. Their worst game was on Sunday, when the Texas Rangers only scored one run against the New York Mets in the third contest of a three-game series.

Their best performance was in the first contest of a three-game series, on Monday, when Texas routed the Kansas City Royals by posting 10 runs. The fifth-place Orioles have now lost back-to-back series against the Mariners and the Twins. Game third with the Seattle Mariners was Baltimore’s worst in the last six, as they failed to produce a single run. In the most recent six games, the one played on Wednesday against the Seattle Mariners was their worst. The Baltimore defense allowed nine runs.

The right-hander has put together a 1.53 WHIP to go along with 35 strikeouts and 29 walks in 46.1 innings of work. Otto got assigned the loss in his last start, which came on the road against the New York Mets on July 1, 2022. He comes in 1-1 with a 4.61 ERA, a 1.49 WHIP, 17 walks and 23 strikeouts over 41 innings of work on the year. Baltimore’s 29-year-old right-hander didn’t factor in the decision in his last start, which came on the road against the Minnesota Twins July 1, 2022. He threw six innings, allowing one run on three hits with one walk and five strikeouts in a 3-2 Orioles loss.
