San Francisco Giants vs. San Diego Padres Betting Prediction

Prior to the results of Wednesday night’s game against Arizona, San Francisco is third in the NL West standings, 10 and a half games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Giants have struggled as of late, losing six straight and eight of their last 10. Their offense has averaged just 3.2 runs per game over that stretch, well below their season average of 4.65 runs per game (12th). San Francisco’s bullpen has been just as bad with a team ERA of 5.5 over their last 10 games. Their bullpen has not played well since the start of the season, but this is even worse than their season ERA of 4.07 (20th). Right-handed pitcher Logan Webb (7-3, 3.13 ERA) is expected to start for the Giants on Thursday.

The San Diego Padres are currently second in the NL West standings, five and half games behind the first place Los Angeles Dodgers. The Padres most recently went 0-2 in a short series with the Seattle Mariners and have lost eight of their last 10 games. San Diego scored just four runs combined in the two games against the Mariners while allowing Seattle to score 14 runs. This team has been bad over their last 10 games, averaging 2.9 runs per game while allowing opponents 5.0 runs per game. This is well below their season averages of 4.44 runs per game (12th) and team ERA of 3.60 (5th). The right-hander Joe Musgrove (8-2, 2.25 ERA) is scheduled to take the mound Thursday and will look to get this team back on track.

The Padres have gone 4-2 SU against the Giants this season. I like that trend to continue and for San Diego to take game one of this series. Musgrove has been great this year and went seven scoreless innings in his outing against the Giants this season. Webb has been solid as well, but I think San Diego’s day off on Wednesday will give them the extra boost they need here. Backing the Padres moneyline.

San Francisco Giants vs. San Diego Padres – Current Form

San Francisco has suffered two straight series losses, falling to the White Sox and the Diamondbacks. The Giants were the weakest on Friday, when they failed at completing even a single run in game one of a three-contest series against the White Sox. Their worst performance in the last six games was allowing 13 runs on Sunday, in the third match of the series played against the Chicago White Sox. The Padres have dropped consecutive series to the Dodgers and the Mariners. Their worst game was on Thursday, when the San Diego Padres only scored one run against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the first contest of a four-game series.

Their worst performance in the last six games was allowing eight runs on Monday, in the first match of the series played against the Seattle Mariners.

San Francisco Giants vs. San Diego Padres – Pitching Matchup

San Francisco: Logan Webb (7-3, 3.13 ERA)

San Francisco’s right-hander Logan Webb takes the mound for his 15th start of the season. Webb looks to improve on a 7-3 record and 3.13 ERA in 97.2 innings, while striking out 86, walking 23 batters, and posting a 1.13 WHIP. The 25-year-old right-hander couldn’t lift the Giants to a home win over the Chicago White Sox on July 2, 2022. In his losing start, Webb tossed six innings in the 3-5 defeat by the Chicago White Sox, while giving up five runs on six hits with five strikeouts and one walk. Webb is 2-1 with a 3.77 ERA across this season’s six starts on the road, which includes 11 walks, 37 strikeouts, and a 1.05 WHIP over 43 innings of action.

San Diego: Joe Musgrove (8-2, 2.25 ERA)

Joe Musgrove will make his 14th start of the season for San Diego, who’s hoping to find some traction after posting a 8-2 record and 2.25 ERA thus far, while tallying a 0.95 WHIP, 19 walks, and 92 strikeouts across 92 innings of action. Musgrove lost his most recent start against the Los Angeles Dodgers, as San Diego’s right-hander surrendered three runs on five hits, one walk, and 10 strikeouts during the Padres’ 3-1 road loss on June 30, 2022. In six home starts this season, Musgrove has compiled a 3-1 record in 38 innings, while striking out 37, walking seven batters, and putting together a 2.60 ERA and a 0.97 WHIP.
