Philadelphia Phillies vs. St. Louis Cardinals Betting Prediction

Philadelphia enters this matchup third in the NL East standings, 7.0 games behind the New York Mets for first place. The Phillies have gone 2-1 SU against the Cardinals in this series and have won seven of their last 10 games. Philadelphia’s bullpen has been fantastic in this series, shutting out the Cardinals in games one and two and giving up just four runs in Sunday’s loss. The offense has been a bit slow, scoring two runs in game one, one in game two, and three in game four. This is well below their season average of 4.75 runs per game (T-4th). Right-handed pitcher Aaron Nola (5-6, 3.15 ERA) is expected to take the mound for the Phillies Monday.

St. Louis is currently second in the NL Central, two and a half games behind the Milwaukee Brewers for first place. The Cardinals have won just one of three games in this series and have lost seven of their last 10 games. The offense has really struggled as of late, with three total runs scored in this series and averaging an atrocious 1.8 runs per game over their last 10. This is well below their season average of 4.47 runs per game. St. Louis’ bullpen has been much better over that stretch, holding opponents to 3.9 runs per game. The right-hander Miles Mikolas (5-7, 2.72 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Cardinals Monday.

The Phillies have won four of their last six games against the Cardinals. I would normally take the Cardinals in this matchup with Mikolas taking the mound, but with how poorly their offense has been I like the Phillies to take Monday’s matchup. Nola has not pitched less than seven innings in his last six starts and should see success against the Cardinals. Until St. Louis can turn their offense around it’s tough to back them. Backing the Phillies moneyline here.
