Seattle Mariners vs. New York Yankees Betting Prediction

The Yankees enter this matchup first in the AL East standings, 12 games ahead of the second place Toronto Blue Jays. New York took game one of this series on Monday night and have won six of their last 10 games. The offense has arguably been the best in the league this season and are first in runs scored (558), second in on base percentage (.331), and first in slugging percentage (.447). Center fielder Aaron Judge has been a big part of the offense's success with a batting average of .297, 42 home runs, and 91 RBIs. New York’s bullpen has been great as well with a team ERA of 3.18 (3rd). The right-hander Jameson Taillon (10-2, 3.72 ERA) is scheduled to take the mound Tuesday.

Seattle is currently second in the AL West standings, 12 games behind the Houston Astros for first place. The Mariners lost three of four in their most recent series with the Astros and have lost six of their last 10 games, including game one of this series Monday night. Seattle finds themselves in the third AL wild card spot; however, with plenty of baseball left to play the Mariners will need to get things back on track if they hope to see the postseason. The offense will need to be a bit better as they average 4.01 runs per game (23rd) while the bullpen has been great with a team ERA of 3.68 (7th).  Right-handed pitcher Logan Gilbert (10-4, 2.78 ERA) is expected to start for the Mariners on Tuesday.

I would like to back Seattle here with Gilbert taking the mound, but the Mariners offense does not have enough fire power, especially against one of the best bullpens in the league. Expect a solid five to seven inning outing from Gilbert but for the Yankees to take control once the relief pitchers start to come in for the Mariners. Not a whole lot of value in backing New York moneyline so will be backing the Yankees runline in this matchup.

Score Prediction: Yankees 4, Mariners 2

Seattle: Logan Gilbert (10-4, 2.78 ERA)

The Mariners’ right-hander Logan Gilbert owns a 10-4 record and 2.78 ERA in his 21th start of the season. Gilbert also posted a 1.15 WHIP, while striking out 118 and walking 32 batters in 123 innings this season. The 25-year-old right-hander didn’t factor in the decision in his last start, when the Mariners lost to the Houston Astros on July 28, 2022 on the road. Gilbert tossed six innings in the 4-2 defeat by the Houston Astros, while giving up two runs on five hits with six strikeouts and two walks. Pitching on the road this season, Gilbert is 6-1 with a 2.47 ERA, a 1.18 WHIP, 23 walks and 64 strikeouts over 69.1 innings in 12 starts.

New York: Jameson Taillon (9-2, 3.72 ERA)

New York ace Jameson Taillon toes the rubber for his 20th start of the season as he looks to improve on a 9-2 mark and 3.72 ERA. The right-hander has put together a 1.16 WHIP to go along with 92 strikeouts and 17 walks in 109 innings of work. In Jameson Taillon’s last start, the Yankees were no match for the Kansas City Royals, losing 1-0 on July 28, 2022. The 30-year-old earned no decision in this game, having tossed six innings while striking out eight and issuing two walks. In 11 home starts this season, Taillon has compiled a 5-1 record in 62.2 innings, while striking out 58, walking eight batters, and putting together a 3.16 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP.
