San Diego Padres vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Betting Analysis

San Diego and Los Angeles meet up for the first of a three-game series on Friday, September 2, 2022 at Dodger Stadium.

Despite posting a 38-31 record away from PETCO Park, San Diego is in second place in the National League West with an overall record of 73-59, which trails the first placed Los Angeles Dodgers by 18 games. The Dodgers currently pace the National League West with a record of 90-40, which has been aided by their sturdy 45-16 tally at home.

San Diego Padres vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Betting Prediction

The Padres enter this matchup second in the NL West, 18.0 games behind the Dodgers for first place. Despite being so far back in the division, San Diego is third in the NL Wild card race with a two and a half game lead over the Milwaukee Brewers. They most recently swept the Giants in a three-game series and have won seven of their last 10 games. While not the best offense, the Padres find ways to get on base and have a batting average of .243 (16th), on base percentage of .321 (7th), slugging percentage of .382 (21st) and have scored 585 runs (11th). San Diego’s bullpen has been consistently good throughout the season with a WHIP of 1.22 (9th) and team ERA of 3.79 (10th). Right-handed pitcher Yu Darvish (11-7, 3.41 ERA) is scheduled to start Friday.

The Dodgers currently have the best record in baseball and a commanding lead over the NL West division. They are also the favorite to win the World Series at all major sportsbooks. Los Angeles went 1-2 SU in their most recent three-game series with the Mets and have lost just ten games since returning from the All-Star breakNone of this should come as a surprise when you look at their team stats. The offense has been the best in the league as of late with a batting average of .261 (2nd), on base percentage of .337 (1st), slugging percentage of .449 (1st) and have scored 691 total runs (1st). Their bullpen also ranks as the best in the league with a WHIP of 1.05 (1st) and team ERA of 2.82 (1st). The right-hander Dustin May (1-1, 1.64 ERA) is expected to start for the Dodgers Friday night.

No disrespect to the Padres, but the Dodgers are simply a better all-around team. Their bullpen is deep, and their lineup feels never ending to opposing pitchers. Darvish did pitch well against the Dodgers just a few weeks ago, but I do not expect him to duplicate that success. Not much value in Dodgers moneyline so will be playing the runline.

Score Prediction: Dodgers 5, Padres 3
Best Bet: Dodgers -1.5

San Diego Padres vs. Los Angeles Dodgers – Current Form

The Padres have played excellent recently, highlighted by San Diego posting back-to-back series victories over the Royals and the Giants squads, resulting in a solid 5-1 record across that window. They limited the San Francisco Giants to just three runs in the second contest of the series on Tuesday.

Against the Kansas City Royals, San Diego’s defense allowed for 15 runs in the third game of the series on Sunday. The Dodgers grabbed three of four games last Monday against the Miami Marlins, but were tripped up by the Mets last Thursday. The Marlins scored only one run against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday, which was Los Angeles’s best result in the last two series.
