New York Yankees vs. Toronto Blue Jays Betting Analysis

The New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays play the first of a three-game series on Monday, September 26, 2022 at the Rogers Centre.

New York leads the American League East with a record of 94-58, despite yielding a 38-36 record on the road so far this season. Their divisional opponent Toronto is currently in second place and 8.5 games behind, as the Blue Jays are 86-67 and 43-32 at home.

New York Yankees vs. Toronto Blue Jays Betting Prediction

The Yankees enter this matchup atop the AL East standings with an eight and a half game lead over the second place Blue Jays. With just 10 games left on their schedule New York is oh so close to clinching the division. New York most recently swept the Red Sox in a four-game series and have won eight of their last 10. Things were looking a bit shaky for the Yankees after returning from the All-Star break, but things look to be back to normal in the Bronx. The offense is back to playing great with a batting average of .241 (17th), on base percentage of .325 (5th), slugging percentage of .429 (4th) and have scored 770 total runs (2nd). The bullpen has also been solid with a WHIP of 1.12 (3rd) and team ERA of 3.36 (3rd). Right-handed pitcher Luis Severino (6-3, 3.36 ERA) is scheduled to start Monday.

Toronto is currently second in the AL East standings, eight and a half games behind the Yankees for first place. If the Blue Jays are unable to win the division, they are still in good position to make the playoffs as they are in the lead for the AL Wild Card race. Toronto went 2-2 SU in their most recent series against the Tampa Bay Rays and are 5-5 SU over their last 10 games. The offense has been outstanding for the Blue Jays throughout the season with a batting average of .261 (1st), on base percentage of .327 (3rd), slugging percentage of .430 (3rd) and have scored 728 total runs (6th). Their bullpen has not been as impressive but have still pitched well at times with a WHIP of 1.25 (11th) and team ERA of 3.95 (17th). The right-hander Kevin Gausman (12-10, 3.32 ERA) is expected to start Monday.

I like the Blue Jays to take game-one of this series. Gausman has pitched twice against the Yankees this season and gave up a combined two runs in 12.2 innings of work. Meanwhile, Severino struggled in his three starts against the Blue Jays, allowing a combined eight runs in 13.2 innings. This should be a competitive series, but I like the Toronto moneyline here in game one.

Score Prediction: Blue Jays 5, Yankees 3
Best Bet: Blue Jays ML (-115)

New York Yankees vs. Toronto Blue Jays – Pitching Matchup

New York: Luis Severino (6-4, 3.36 ERA)

Luis Severino will make his 17th start of the season for New York, who’s hoping to find some traction after posting a 6-4 record and 3.36 ERA thus far, while tallying a 1.04 WHIP, 26 walks, and 101 strikeouts across 91 innings of action. New York’s 28-year-old right-hander earned the win in his last start, which came at home against the Pittsburgh Pirates September 21, 2022. He threw five innings, allowing one run on two hits with one walk and six strikeouts in a 14-2 Yankees victory. In his seven starts on the road this season, Severino is 2-2 with a 3.66 ERA, a 1.02 WHIP, 13 walks and 38 strikeouts over 39.1 innings of work.

Toronto: Kevin Gausman (12-10, 3.32 ERA)

Kevin Gausman is on the hill for the Blue Jays in this contest as he makes his 29th start of the season hoping to build some positive momentum. He comes in 12-10 with a 3.32 ERA, a 1.24 WHIP, 27 walks and 194 strikeouts over 165.1 innings of work this season. In Kevin Gausman’s last start, the Blue Jays were no match for the Philadelphia Phillies, losing 4-3 on September 21, 2022. The 31-year-old earned no decision in this game, having tossed six innings on five hits, while striking out eight and issuing two walks. Gausman is 4-7 with a 4.67 ERA across 15 home starts this season, which includes 13 walks, 84 strikeouts, and a 1.44 WHIP over 71.1 innings of action.
