Matchup Spread Total Moneyline

According to VegasInsider’s Patrick Everson, there was a little bit of disagreement amongst the oddsmakers about where to open the line for this contest in the wake of Justin Herbert's season ending injury for the Chargers as well as the Raiders’ horrifically ugly 3-0 loss to Minnesota last week. The SuperBook officially reopened the market at Raiders -1.5 on Sunday night, and since then, that line has been bet to -3 at most shops as of Wednesday afternoon.

Personally, however, I’m targeting the total for this matchup – and although I acknowledge OU 34 is a very low number, I simply don’t trust either of these offensive units to score points. So, I’m going to hold my breath and take the under at the low total.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce said that he still had not made a decision on who is going to play QB for his team on Thursday night – and I’d like to imagine that means he is hosting open tryouts at the stadium tonight after scoring 18 points or less in 11 of 13 games so far this season, and averaging just 11.5 PPG across their last four. Unfortunately, however, that isn’t the case, and he is likely deciding between giving Jimmy Garoppolo another crack at it or running it back with Aidan O’Connell.

On the other side of that same coin, the Chargers have scored 10 points or less in three straight games, and that was before QB Justin Herbert went down with a season ending injury last week. So now it’s Easton Stick’s turn to captain the ship, and I expect the bottom to fall out for LA’s offense.

There’s a laundry list of things holding back this Chargers team, however, Herbert has never been one of them, and I expect their offense to struggle more than ever without him. While on the flip side, there’s no denying the fact that LA’s defense stinks, but fortunately for them, the Raiders simply don’t score points, regardless of opposing defensive strength. Give me the under on Thursday night.

Los Angeles Chargers Betting Analysis

The Chargers defense looked like one of the worst units in the league early in the season. However, they’ve slowly turned things around throughout the back half of the year as the Bolts currently rank 17th in points allowed at 21.7 PPG.

Fortunately though, under bettors shouldn’t have to worry about the Raiders matching that number, considering they’ve only cleared it once all season.

Las Vegas Raiders Betting Analysis

As somebody who has been tasked for writing a game preview for every primetime NFL matchup, I am officially down on my hands and knees begging the league to avoid scheduling ANY TEAM for five primetime games next season – or if they do in fact lean into a handful of particular teams again, please make sure the teams are good, because I’ve been sick of watching the Raiders since the moment I laid eyes on them in the preseason, and this is now the FIFTH TIME the national audience will have the treat of watching them in primetime.

For context: the Ravens are widely regarded as the best team in the AFC at the moment with a record of 10-3, and Baltimore has only played two primetime games prior to this week. While the Dolphins have one of the most electric offensive attacks in recent memory and have been battling for the top seed in the conference all season, and yet, we’ve seen them in just three standalone night games thus far. But hey, at least I get to write about this dumpster fire of a Raiders team five times, right? Fun stuff. Ok, my mini-rant is over. Back to gambling…
