NFL Odds After Aaron Rodgers Injury: Jets Super Bowl Futures, More

NFL odds in a variety of markets got a shake up, or in some cases taken down altogether, during the final game of Week 1. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers made his regular-season debut for the New York Jets – and it lasted all of four plays after he went down with an injury.

Before the diagnosis, bookmakers were already making moves on Jets Super Bowl odds and other futures markets, along with NFL MVP odds.

With Rodgers’ injury confirmed, here’s everything you need to know about New York Jets futures and NFL odds.

NFL Odds: Jets Lines, Futures After Rodgers Injury

Updated Jets Super Bowl Odds, Futures

On the Jets' first possession against the Buffalo Bills, in the Monday Night Football capper to NFL Week 1, Rodgers was slow to get up after a sack. He was ultimately helped off the field, and the only info initially was that Rodgers suffered an apparent ankle injury.

There was speculation, though, that it could be a far mor serious Achilles injury. Tuesday morning brought confirmation that it was indeed a torn Achilles, ending Rodgers' season.

Side note: Stunningly, the Jets rallied to the cause and ultimately pulled off a 22-16 overtime victory as 2.5-point underdogs. New York won on a 65-yard Xavier Gipson punt return for a touchdown.

But getting back to the Rodgers injury: Prior to the game, BetMGM had the Jets as the +1800 co-seventh choice in odds to win the Super Bowl. In the wake of the injury, New York backed up to +2500, which is where the Jets opened back in February.

"It's obviously a fluid situation," BetMGM trader Hal Egeland said Monday night. "If the fear of an Achilles ends up being the injury, the Jets will be moving out quite a bit further."

With Tuesday's confirmation of a torn Achilles, odds indeed moved out much further.

"We now have the Jets at 66/1," BetMGM trading team lead Seamus Magee said. "The Jets are gonna need Zach Wilson – or whomever they get – to step up and attempt to fill a Rodgers-sized hole behind center."

Nationally for BetMGM, the Jets are taking the seventh-most Super Bowl tickets and money. Throughout the offseason, bettors were banking on Rodgers revival.

At BetMGM Nevada – digital and retail betting in the sportsbook operator's Las Vegas market – the Jets were even more popular.

"As far as tickets go, they're one of the most-bet teams," BetMGM Nevada's Scott Shelton said, noting the Jets are No. 5 in tickets and No. 6 in money, creating the fifth-largest liability.

In BetMGM's AFC championship futures odds, the Jets were the +900 co-fourth choice with the Ravens. That market and others are now off the board in the wake of Rodgers' injury.

FanDuel initially stretched the Jets' Super Bowl odds from +1800 to +2700, then moved all the way out to +5500 Monday night, despite the Jets' shocking comeback win.

Jets AFC East Odds, Rodgers MVP Odds

AFC East futures odds came off the board Monday night at BetMGM, as did NFL MVP odds. At the time AFC East odds came down, the Jets were the +275 third choice, behind the Bills (+125) and Dolphins +225.

But New York was more popular than Buffalo and Miami, in large part due to Rodgers.

"The Jets were a decent chunk of our liability across the board on futures," Magee said, alluding to division, AFC and Super Bowl odds markets.

Entering Monday's season opener, BetMGM had Rodgers as the +1600 co-seventh choice in odds to win the NFL MVP. Rodgers was seventh in ticket count and ninth in money nationally for BetMGM. The four-time MVP winner was even more popular at BetMGM Nevada.

"He was one of the favorites, ticket-wise. No. 4 in tickets, behind Jalen Hurts, Justin Herbert and Trevor Lawrence," Shelton said. "In money, it's Herbert, Hurts, Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, then Rodgers. Rodgers is actually small winner for us."
