2022 DETROIT LIONS BETTING ODDS, PREDICTIONS, PREVIEW

Detroit finished dead last in the NFC North with a record of 3-13-1 last season, marking the Lions’ fourth straight last place finish in the division; however, last year’s poor result stung a little bit worse than usual, as Detroit replaced QB Matt Stafford and HC Matt Patricia with QB Jared Goff and HC Dan Campbell, which ultimately bred their worst campaign in years.

The Lions’ offense was virtually ineffective in Goff’s first season under-center, as Detroit ranked 25th in scoring and 22nd in total offense (19.1 PPG, 323 YPG); however, the Lions have far bigger concerns than just offense, considering their defense ranked 31st in points allowed and 30th in yards per play (27.5 PPG, 5.9 YPP), which is nearly impossible to match from an offensive standpoint.

Detroit has been a league bottom-dweller for several years now, with most of that time spent with the reigning Super Bowl MVP at quarterback; and while I still believe Goff is much better than he is typically given credit for, the Lions have no chance at competing for a playoff spot if their defense continues to surrender nearly 30 PPG.

WIN TOTAL ODDS

  • Over 6.5 (+105)
  • Under 6.5 (-135)

Detroit’s win total is stationed at OU 6.5 with a relatively heavy lean towards the under at -135; and while the Lions should ultimately present as a far more cohesive squad than they did last year, I’ll be genuinely surprised if they pull off 7+ wins after averaging just 4.8 victories per season across their previous four campaigns.

DETROIT LIONS ODDS TO WIN NFC NORTH

+1000

The Lions are listed at +900 to win the NFC North, which is deadlocked with Chicago (+900) at the very bottom of the division totem pole; and for a future that has virtually zero chance of cashing, I’m slightly confused as to why the oddsmakers aren’t offering a more tempting number like Houston to win the AFC South (+2500) or Seattle to win the NFC West (+1000).

DETROIT LIONS ODDS TO WIN NFC CHAMPIONSHIP

+5000

Detroit is listed at +6600 to win the NFC, which falls well behind the Bears (+4000), Giants (+5000), and Seahawks (+5000); and ranks directly alongside Carolina (+6600), which is where I typically expect the Lions to fall regarding long-term futures odds.

DETROIT LIONS ODDS TO WIN SUPER BOWL 57

+10000

Detroit is listed at +12500 to win this year’s Super Bowl, which ranks alongside the Panthers (+12500), Jets (+12500), and Seahawks (+12500) in the second to last grouping before hitting the absolute bottom of the barrel with Atlanta (+25000) and Houston (+25000); and while I agree with the Lions’ overall placement in the +12500 cluster, they might be next on the chopping block if the oddsmakers decide to level out those two departments.

DETROIT LIONS 2022 MVP CONTENDERS & ODDS

Jared Goff (QB) +10000

D'Andre Swift (RB) +20000

Amon-Ra St. Brown (WR) +35000

Goff is listed at +20000 to take home this year’s MVP award, which is deadlocked with several position players, including Lions’ RB D’Andre Swift (+20000), Dolphins’ WR Jaylen Waddle (+20000), Saints’ WR Michael Thomas (+20000), Cardinals’ WR DeAndre Hopkins (+20000), Cowboys’ RB Tony Pollard (+20000), and others; and while I must admit, it’s solid value compared to the other names surrounding Goff, the Lions are still one of the least intriguing longshots across the board in my opinion.

DETROIT LIONS TO MAKE PLAYOFFS ODDS

Make Playoff?: Yes (+425) | No (-600)

The Lions have been one of the worst teams in the league for several years now, and they don’t appear to be heading upwards any time soon; and while three Wild Cards per conference makes me a little bit hesitant to completely write off any squad, I’d rather lay the -600 juice against Detroit to miss the postseason as opposed to taking the cheap flier at +425 on what would be a genuinely shocking playoff appearance.
