Three defensive linemen are co-favorites to be named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year at the end of the 2022 season. Aaron Donald, T.J. Watt, and Myles Garrett are all 7-1 to win NFL DPOY currently, and only two other players (Micah Parsons and Nick Bosa) have odds of less than 20-1. We have seen defensive linemen dominate this award in recent years as more emphasis has been placed on pass rushers in the modern NFL. Aaron Donald will always be one of the favorites to be named NFL Defensive Player of the Year. Donald has been named DPOY three times in the last five seasons, and he is already one of the greatest defensive players of all-time. He has finished with at least 11 sacks in five straight seasons despite being the primary focus of other teams’ offensive gameplans. Donald is the one favorite with real value at 7-1.

Although T.J. Watt is the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, his odds should be longer than 7-1. Pittsburgh is likely to be the worst team in the AFC North this season, and the Steelers could get smoked on defense given the offenses in this division.

Myles Garrett was the early favorite to be named NFL DPOY last year after recording 4.5 sacks in a Week 3 win over Chicago. Garrett was one of the best defensive linemen last year, but he had just one sack over the last four weeks of the season as Cleveland fell apart.

Two of the players with the most value to win NFL DPOY are on the same team. The AFC West is now the best division in football with a ton of offensive talent, so Joey Bosa and Derwin James will have increased attention on their performances. Bosa is one of the best defensive ends in the league, while James is a playmaking safety that can do it all. Both players have dealt with major injuries in recent years, but they can potentially win DPOY if they stay healthy.

If you’re looking for even bigger longshots, Vita Vea has value at 80-1 and Jeremiah Owusu-Koromoah also has value at 200-1. Vea has the potential to post Aaron Donald type numbers in a bad division and made his first Pro Bowl last season. Meanwhile, Owusu-Koromoah had a strong rookie season as a versatile linebacker and can make the highlight reel plays that make voters drool.
