Devante Parker Traded to New England Patriots

The other shoe has dropped as a result of the Tyreek Hill trade. Miami had a crowded receivers’ room after acquiring Hill a little over a week ago from Kansas City, so the Dolphins dealt DeVante Parker to the New England Patriots on Saturday. New England didn’t have to give up much to land Parker, trading a third-round pick in next year’s draft for Parker and a fifth-round pick in this month’s draft. The Dolphins still have shorter Super Bowl odds and AFC East odds than the Patriots, but the gap has closed a little.

HOW WILL DEVANTE PARKER HELP THE PATS?

New England has been looking for a top receiver ever since Julian Edelman and Rob Gronkowski retired. Jakobi Meyers has been the leading receiver for the last two seasons, but he has yet to have a 1,000-yard season and averaged just 10.4 YPR last season.

DeVante Parker has had just one 1,000-yard season, but he has been banged up for a lot of his career. Parker showed what he could do in the 2019 campaign provided he stays healthy, as he had 72 catches for 1,202 yards and nine touchdowns that season. He is a relatively inexpensive gamble too considering the contracts that were just given to Tyreek Hill, Davante Adams, and Christian Kirk.

Mac Jones didn’t have a lot of receiving options last year, but Parker will give him a proven veteran on the outside. Additionally, the acquisition of Parker could lead to the Patriots cutting Nelson Agholor after Agholor posted subpar numbers in 2021.

If the Patriots have a top ten offense, they could be Super Bowl contenders once again given the talent on defense. New England was second in scoring defense and fourth in total defense last season, so their Super Bowl odds of 40-1 might be a little tempting after this trade.

DOES THIS TRADE HURT MIAMI?

This trade shouldn’t have much of an impact on the Dolphins given the talent they have at receiver. Tyreek Hill is one of the best receivers in the league, and Jaylen Waddle turned a lot of heads as a rookie. Chase Edmonds and Mike Gesicki give Tua Tagovailoa excellent options at running back and tight end too.
