Minnesota Vikings vs. Philadelphia Eagles Picks, Predictions, Odds
Week 2 of the NFL season will conclude on Monday night with a compelling NFC showdown between the Minnesota Vikings and Philadelphia Eagles. Coverage begins from Lincoln Financial Field at 8:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
MINNESOTA VIKINGS vs. PHILADELPHIA EAGLES BETTING PREDICTION
The Eagles almost coughed up an ugly one in Detroit last week, as Philadelphia jumped out to an enormous 31-14 lead with 10:21 left in the third quarter, however, the kings of garbage time struck again, as the Lions outscored them 21-7 the rest of the way and ended up losing the contest by just three points (L, 38-35). Philly’s offense mustered together an impressive 38-point performance last week, however, the main takeaways surround their defensive struggles, as the Eagles surrendered 35 PTS on 386 total yards to a Lions’ offense that ranked 25th in scoring last season (19.1 PPG).
Minnesota, on the other hand, absolutely dominated at home in Week 1, as Kirk Cousins and co. racked up 23 PTS on 395 total yards en route to a 16-point victory over Green Bay, which was a matchup the Vikings were two-point underdogs in.
I’ll take the over here, as there should be plenty of points scored in Monday night’s matchup between an Eagles’ squad that needed every ounce of their 38-point offensive effort to earn a three-point win over Detroit last week; and a Vikings’ defense that ranked 24th in scoring and 30th in total yardage last season (25.1 PPG, 387 YPG).
Score Prediction: Eagles 30, Vikings 26
Best Bet: Over 50.5 (-110)

MINNESOTA VIKINGS BETTING ANALYSIS
The Vikings finished second in the NFC North with a record of 8-9 last season, which fell five games short of Green Bay for the division crown (13-4) and one game behind Philadelphia for the final Wild Card spot in the conference (9-8), marking the third time Minnesota has missed the playoffs since acquiring QB Kirk Cousins four years ago.
Minnesota’s offense typically isn’t the issue though, as the Vikings ranked 13th and 10th in total yardage (25 PPG, 363 YPG) last season, highlighted by impressive shootout victories over the Packers (W, 34-31), Chargers (W, 27-20), and Steelers (W, 36-28) over the course of the year.
However, their defense didn’t exactly pull its weight, as the Vikings surrendered an average of 25.1 PPG on 384 YPG last season, leading to losses in four matchups in which their offense generated 26+ PTS.

PHILADELPHIA EAGLES BETTING ANALYSIS
The Eagles’ defense was relatively pedestrian in DC Jonathan Gannon’s first campaign with the team, as Philly’s defense ranked 19th in scoring 10th in total yardage last season (23.1 PPG, 330 YPG), which was enough to keep their 12th ranked scoring offense afloat in most contests (25.5 PPG); but not enough compete with top tier NFC squads like Tampa Bay and Los Angeles.
Philadelphia’s offense was phenomenal during the back half of last year, as the Eagles scored 26+ PTS in eight of their last ten regular-season contests (28.5 PPG), and the addition of Pro-Bowl WR A.J. Brown has only amplified the development of the Birds’ young offense. However, there’s still several question marks surrounding the Eagles’ defensively, which should ultimately determine what level Philly can contend at throughout the year, but for now, we should just sit back and enjoy the back-and-forth shootouts.
