MIAMI DOLPHINS vs. NEW YORK JETS BETTING PREDICTION

The Jets are off to a surprisingly solid 2-2 start to the season, however, it hasn’t been pretty, as New York scored just 10.5 PPG on 354 YPG and turned the ball over six times across a pair of double-digit losses to Baltimore and Cincy in Weeks 1 and 3, and escaped with a pair of thrilling come-from-behind road wins over Cleveland and Pittsburgh in Weeks 2 and 4.

Miami, on the other hand, clearly isn’t the same squad without Tua Tagovailoa, however, the Dolphins still have a very solid backup QB in Teddy Bridgewater, who posted a 7-7 record in 14 starts for Denver last season (68% CMP, 18 TD, 7 INT), and now wields far more weaponry in the pass-catching department with one of the best one-two WR combos in the league in Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.

I’ll back Miami to handle business on the road here, as Bridgewater certainly handicaps the Dolphins in tough matchups, however, the Jets are two miracle comebacks short of sitting 0-4 on the year, and while that partly speaks to the toughness of Robert Saleh’s squad, I still don’t expect New York to win matchups against upper-tier AFC squads regardless of who’s under center.

Score Prediction: Dolphins 23, Jets 17

MIAMI DOLPHINS BETTING ANALYSIS

The Dolphins finished third in the AFC East with a record of 9-8 last season, falling just half-a-game short of Pittsburgh for the final Wild Card spot in the conference (9-7-1). However, Miami wasn’t considered a serious playoff contender for most of the year, as the Dolphins opened with a miserable 1-7 skid, which was followed by an impressive 8-1 run to close the season.

The Dolphins had lots to feel good about heading into this season, as Miami chalked up last year’s campaign to going 8-5 with QB Tua Tagovailoa under center, and 1-4 without him. However, Tua’s status didn’t appear to have much bearing in those results, as Miami posted losses in matchups against the Bills, Buccaneers, Colts, and Raiders in his absence; and wins over the Panthers, Giants, Saints, and Jets (2) in his presence. So, this week’s matchup with Bridgewater under center should serve as a solid test for the rest of this deep Dolphins’ roster.

NEW YORK JETS BETTING ANALYSIS

The Jets finished dead last in the AFC East with a record of 4-13 last season, which tied the Giants (4-13) for the third-worst mark in the league, with the only squads falling behind them in the final standings being the Lions (3-13-1) and Jaguars (3-14).

The Jets showed flashes of brilliance during QB Zach Wilson’s rookie campaign, as New York pulled off tough upset victories over the Titans and Bengals early in the year. However, they desperately lacked consistency on the offensive side of the ball, as the Jets’ offense scored less than 20 PTS in nine games last year (18.2 PPG), which is a recipe for disaster when combined with a defense ranked dead last in both scoring and total yardage (29.6 PPG, 398 YPG), and things haven’t gotten much better in that department, highlighted by New York’s defense surrendering 25.3 PPG through the first four weeks of this season.
