Bengals vs Ravens Prediction, Picks & Betting Odds for Thursday Night Football Week 11

Matchup Spread Total Moneyline

Prior to last week, the AFC North appeared to be slowly splitting into separate tiers of playoff contention, as the Ravens and Bengals seemed destined to jockey for the top spot in the division the rest of the way, while the Steelers and Browns target one (or both) of the final Wild Card spots. However, the landscape of the AFC North shifted dramatically last week, as Baltimore and Cincy both lost home matchups as favorites of 6+ points, setting stage for a four-horse race to the finish line with the entire division separated by less than 1.5 games entering this week.

Let’s rewind the clock though. The Ravens lost to Cleveland in dramatic fashion this past Sunday, as Baltimore led by a score of 31-17 with roughly nine minutes left in the game. But a pick-six and a late touchdown put the Browns in position to sneak away with a stunning comeback victory on the heels of a walk-off 40-yard field goal. However, the Ravens were widely considered one of the most dangerous teams in football prior to last week’s loss, and possibly even the best team in the AFC. So, in the aftermath of a “fluky loss” to a division rival, the oddsmakers still aren’t ready to sell any stock in this Baltimore team.

According to VegasInsider’s Patrick Everson, the SuperBook closed the lookahead line for this contest at Baltimore -3. But in the aftermath of both teams losing at home in Week 10, the spread reopened at Baltimore -4 on Sunday night, and hasn’t seen much movement as of Wednesday afternoon. SuperBook risk advisor Chase Michaelson said, “That felt like a very fluky loss for Baltimore, and the Ravens' power rating hasn't taken much of a hit.”

To a certain extent, I agree with Michaelson. My opinion of Baltimore hasn’t changed much either. The Ravens are a very good football team, and when healthy, I believe they wield all the necessary tools to make a deep playoff run. But let’s be real, Cincy deserves far more respect in this spot. We know for a fact that the Bengals are capable of trading punches with the best-of-the-best in a hostile environment; a team coming off back-to-back trips to the AFC Championship Game plus a Super Bowl appearance.

Joe Burrow was significantly hindered by a calf injury in the first few weeks of the season, and as a result, the Bengals stumbled out to a miserable 1-3 start, while scoring just 12.4 PPG in their first four matchups. However, rest assured, Cincy has fully returned to elite form since Week 5 despite dropping their latest affair. The Bengals have averaged 26.6 PPG across their last five games, resulting in wins at Arizona, vs. Seattle, at San Francisco, vs. Buffalo, and then a 30-27 loss to Houston.

Cincy may currently reside at the bottom of the AFC North standings, but don’t be fooled by their lackluster record of 5-4. The Bengals are playing great football, and they desperately need to win this game in order to stay in the thick of the AFC playoff hunt. Whereas, the Ravens are still relatively comfortable in terms of playoff positioning despite their latest loss, as they remain the stand-alone leader of the division at 7-3 entering this week. This strikes me as a “Hungry Dog Runs Faster” situation. Give me the Bengals on Thursday night.

Cincinnati Bengals Betting Analysis

Even at full strength, Cincy is certainly beatable, and last week’s loss to Houston was a glaring reminder of that. But prior to their latest defeat, the Bengals were the talk of the league after posting consecutive wins over the Seahawks, 49ers, and Bills. Joe Burrow was quickly climbing the MVP odds list. Futures bets were beginning to pour in on Cincy. The Bengals were truly starting to look like the team that previously stood toe-to-toe with the Chiefs in the last two AFC championship games.

However, those conversations have come to a screeching halt after losing a shootout to a really solid Texans team. But I wouldn’t look too far into their latest loss. The Bengals are playing great football. The second half of last week’s Houston vs. Cincy game felt like a matchup between two offensive units that couldn’t be stopped, as opposed to the Bengals coming up short against an inferior opponent. Or in other words, Cincy was simply outplayed by a good team.

The Bengals were favored by 5.5 vs. Houston last week. Now, they are tagged as four-point underdogs at Baltimore. The difference between Houston and Baltimore simply isn’t 9.5 points. Cincy +4 is the play here. I will also be sprinkling on the moneyline.

Baltimore Ravens Betting Analysis

The Ravens have certainly been impressive so far this season. However, for no other reason than a gut feeling, I’m still not fully sold on Baltimore as a Super Bowl contender. The Ravens have journeyed through a pretty tough schedule, and have found nothing but success for the most part, considering they posted wins vs. Houston , at Cleveland, at Tennessee, at Arizona, at Cincy, and of course, a pair of blowout victories over the Seahawks and Lions.

Push comes to shove though, the main reason why the market is so high on the Ravens is because most fans originally circled Lions vs. Ravens and Lions vs. Seahawks on the calendar as marquee matchups, and Baltimore absolutely dominated those two games. So, those wins naturally stick out in the minds of bettors when looking back on their journey to 7-3. But let’s not pretend the Ravens are some type of unstoppable force. Baltimore also scored just 10 points in a division loss to the Steelers, as well as 19 points in an overtime loss to the Colts.

If the Ravens proceed to bury Cincy this week, I may need to recalibrate my view. But all things considered, I still believe that the Bengals are the slightly better team in this matchup, and they desperately need to win this game. So, I’m taking the points with the road dog.
