BIG EAST TOURNAMENT HISTORICAL TRENDS

-- Villanova has won five of the last seven Big East tournaments.

-- The last 10th seed to win an opening round game was Creighton, back in 2015 when the Bluejays knocked off DePaul, 78-63 as 3.5-point favorites.

-- The last time a top seed lost its opening game was Villanova in 2014 as the Wildcats were tripped up by Seton Hall, 64-63 as 10.5-point favorites

-- The five current Big East teams that have never won this tournament are Butler, Creighton, DePaul, Marquette, and Xavier. Two of those teams reached the title game before falling short as Xavier lost in 2015, while Creighton fell in both 2014 and 2017.
