Tuesday’s Tip Sheet

Tuesday's college basketball betting action features a pair of big showdowns in the Big Ten and the Big 12.

First up is battle between the No. 11 Ohio State Buckeyes and the No. 12 Maryland Terrapins in College Park. Later that night, the No. 4 Baylor Bears go on the road to square off against the No. 22 Texas Tech Red Raiders.

Betting Matchup

The Buckeyes gave up some ground in the rankings with a pair of losses at home to West Virginia and Wisconsin as favorites in their last two games. They slipped to 2-3 both straight-up and against the spread in their last five games following a perfect 9-0 SU start while going 8-1 ATS. The total stayed UNDER in those recent two losses after going OVER in four of Ohio State’s previous six games.

Kyle Young is the Buckeyes’ top shooter at 66.7 percent but he missed his last start after having his appendix removed. He is out indefinitely.

Maryland is 12-2 SU with a 2-1 record in Big Ten play following Saturday’s 75-59 victory against Indiana as a 6 ½-point home favorite. The Terrapins split games against Illinois (win) and Penn State (loss) in earlier conference action. The cover against the Hoosiers was their first in the last five games. Maryland is 6-8 ATS with the total staying UNDER in five of its last seven contests. Jalen Smith led the way in Saturday’s win with 19 points.

Senior guard Anthony Cowan Jr. is the team’s leading scorer (16.4 points) and he added 13 points to the winning cause.

-- The Buckeyes have lost seven of their last eight January games SU and the total has gone OVER in five of their last six conference games.

-- The Terrapins have won their last 10 home games SU and they are 12-6 ATS in their last 18 games played on a Tuesday.

-- Maryland won both meetings last season SU and ATS. It is 6-3 both SU and ATS in its last nine games against Ohio State. The total has gone OVER in four of the last five meetings.

Betting Matchup

Baylor continues to climb the national rankings in the midst of a SU 10-game winning streak. It opened play in the Big 12 with Saturday’s 59-44 home victory over Texas as 8 ½-point favorites. The SU 11-1 Bears have followed a ATS win with an ATS loss over the course of their last seven games. They are 7-5 ATS overall and the total has stayed UNDER in four of their last six outings.

MaCio Teague had a big game against Texas with 21 points. The Bears won that game by 15 points despite shooting 31.3 percent from the field and 29.4 percent from three-point range.

Texas Tech is 10-3 SU this season and it got things going in the Big 12 on Saturday with a big 85-50 romp over Oklahoma State as a 5 ½-point home favorite. The Red Raiders have won their last five games SU but this was just their second cover ATS over their last eight outings. They are an even 4-4 ATS at home this season. The total has gone OVER or ended as a PUSH in four of Texas Tech’s last five games.

With five players averaging at least 10 points a game, the Red Raiders are scoring 76.8 points. They are holding opposing teams to 62.2 points on defense.

-- The Bears have actually lost four of their last five Big 12 games SU with the total going OVER in four of their last five road games.

-- The Red Raiders have a SU 15-game winning streak at home but they slide to 4-12-1 ATS in their last 17 games played in January.

-- The home won last season’s two-game series SU and ATS with the total going OVER in each contest. Texas Tech has a 5-2 record ATS in its last seven games against Baylor.
