IOWA STATE CYCLONES VS. TEXAS TECH RED RAIDERS PREDICTIONS

Iowa State has lost some of the luster from its straight-up 12-0 run through nonconference play with a 2-3 SU start in Big 12 play. The Cyclones did stun Texas by nine points on Saturday as slight 2.5-point home underdogs. This followed a one-point loss to Kansas as 13-point underdogs on the road.

Texas Tech will look to get back on track after losing to Kansas State by 11 points on Saturday as a five-point road favorite. To the Red Raiders’ credit, they have already beaten Kansas at home and Baylor on the road in earlier Big 12 play. They are 13-4 SU overall.

Tuesday’s conference clash will be the second meeting this season. Iowa State knocked off Texas Tech 51-47 on Jan. 5 as a five-point favorite at home. I am looking for the Red Raiders to return the favor with a SU win at home that also covers the current spread.

IOWA STATE CYCLONES BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 14-3
  • ATS: 11-6
  • O/U: 7-10

Iowa State put together an impressive resume outside the conference this season with SU upsets against Xavier, Memphis, Creighton and Iowa. It was able to cover in a tight five-point loss to Baylor as a 7.5-point favorite at home. My concern is playing this game on the road, where the Cyclones have not always played their best ball.

Guard Izaiah Brockington continues to lead the team in both points (16.5) and rebounds (7.9) a game while shooting 48.4% from the field. He is also one of the Iowa State’s best foul shooters at 78.9%. The team is shooting 70.9% from the free throw line as a whole.

Guards’ Gabe Kalscheur (10.8 points) and Tyrese Hunter (10.6 points) are next on the list as part of the Cyclones’ 70.9-point scoring average this season. Hunter is shooting 37.8% from the field and leading the team in assists with five a game.

Iowa State is connecting on 45.7% of its shots from the field and 34.9% of shots outside the three-point line. It has been able to average 34.1 rebounds with 10.2 on the offensive end of the court. When it comes to playing defense, the Cyclones have held opposing teams to an average of 59.3 points per game.

TEXAS TECH RED RAIDERS BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 13-4
  • ATS: 10-7
  • O/U: 7-10

The Red Raiders may have been looking past Saturday’s game against Kansas State as favorites on the road. However, they will not forget the earlier loss to Iowa State with the rematch on their home court. Texas Tech is still a profitable 5-2 ATS in its last seven games with the total staying UNDER in eight of its last 10 contests.

As the team’s leading scorer this season with 12.6 PPG, guard Terrance Shannon Jr. remains out of the lineup with a back injury. However, forward Bryson Williams (12.4 points) and guard Kevin McCullar (12.3 points) continue to lead the way on offense.

Williams is shooting 52.8% from the field and 41% from three-point range. McCullar leads the Red Raiders in both rebounds (5.8) and assists (3.6) a game. Guard Davion Warren is another player scoring in double figures this season with 10.4 PPG while hitting 44.9% of his shots from the field.

Texas Tech has been able to average 73.8 points a game while shooting 47.6% from the field and 33.1% from three-point range. It is converting on 66.6% of its shots from the free throw line. It has the slight edge under the boards with 38.2 rebounds a game and this defense is allowing an average of 58.6 points a game.

Both Iowa State and Texas Tech have gone UNDER the point total in 10 of their last 17 games. (AP)

IOWA STATE CYCLONES VS. TEXAS TECH RED RAIDERS BETTING CONCLUSION

Texas Tech has won six of the last 10 meetings SU even with the earlier loss this season. It has a 7-3 record ATS in that same span of games. The total has stayed UNDER in three of the last five meetings. It stayed UNDER 127 points in that first meeting on Jan. 5.

I fully expect the Red Raiders to quickly bounce back from Saturday’s loss both SU and ATS. They have won their last 13 home games SU with a 7-2 record ATS in the last nine games at home.
