ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE VS. AUBURN TIGERS PREDICTIONS

Alabama is coming off a huge upset over the Big 12’s Baylor Bears this past Saturday in a nine- point home victory as a three-point underdog. This game was actually a welcomed break from a SEC slide to 4-4 straight-up on the season. One of those losses came at home against Auburn on Jan. 11 in a four-point setback as a three-point favorite.

The top-ranked Tigers crushed Oklahoma by 18 points on Saturday in their Big 12/SEC Challenge matchup closing as 10-point favorites at home. They are 20-1 SU this season with a perfect 8-0 record in conference play. Auburn has not lost a game SU since coming up short against Connecticut on Nov. 24.

This series has remained tight in recent years with an even 5-5 SU record over the past 10 meetings. Alabama gets the slight 5-4-1 edge against the spread. Laying 7.5 points against a bitter rival always comes with a gamble, but I could see a slight letdown by Alabama on the road this Tuesday night while the Tigers continue to roll.

ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 14-7
  • ATS: 8-13
  • O/U: 13-7-1

Alabama’s fast start this season has become much more tempered against conference opponents in recent games. From a betting standpoint, the Crimson Tide have been an excellent team to go against with a 2-11 record ATS in their last 13 games. Beating Baylor SU snapped a six-game skid ATS. The total has gone OVER in six of their last eight contests.

Guard Jaden Shackleford posted 19 points with nine rebounds to help pace Saturday’s win. He has led the team in scoring all season long with an average of 17.2 points per game. He is also pulling down an average of 5.9 rebounds a game.

Guards’ Jahvon Quinerly (14.6 points) and Keon Ellis (12.1 points) have been a big part of this offense as well. Ellis is Alabama’s leading rebounder (6.1) and Quinerly leads in assists with 4.3 a game. One injury note for Tuesday is forward Darius Miles (6.8 points and 3.6 rebounds). He remains questionable with a knee injury.

The Tide are scoring an average of 81.4 PPG and shooting 45.3% from the field and 31% from three-point range. They have converted on 71.5% of their attempts from the free throw line. Of their 39.9 rebounds a game, 13.6 have come on offense. Alabama has relied heavily on its offensive output in light of an inflated points-allowed average of 74.9.

AUBURN TIGERS BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 20-1
  • ATS: 16-5
  • O/U: 12-9

Along with Auburn’s extended SU 17-game winning streak, it has gone a very profitable 14-3 ATS during the same span of games. The Tigers failed to cover in a 55-54 close call against Missouri on Jan. 25 as 12-point road favorites after covering in their first seven conference games. The total has gone OVER in six of their last eight outings.

The run to the top of the national rankings has been fueled by the play of forward Jabari Smith as the team’s leading scorer with 15.6 PPG. He is shooting 43.8% from the field while converting on 40.4% of his 109 attempts from three-point range.

Guards’ KD Johnson (13.2 points) and Wendell Green Jr. (12.1 points) join forward Walker Kessler (11.3 points) as three more players scoring in double figures. Kessler leads the team in rebounds with 7.7 and Green’s 4.9 assists a game top that list.

Auburn is another high scoring team with 79.7 points per game. It is shooting 45.2% from the field. That drops to 33.2% outside the three-point line. This is also another solid team under the boards with 39.1 rebounds a game. Defensively, the Tigers are holding opposing teams to an average of 65.4 PPG.

Auburn has covered the spread in 10 of its last 11 home games. (AP)

ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE VS. AUBURN TIGERS BETTING CONCLUSION

As mentioned, this series has remained tight the past few seasons and they matchup well on paper heading into Tuesday’s rematch. My take is that Auburn is playing like the No. 1 team in the nation and Alabama continues to search for better consistency from one game to the next.

This opens the door to a regular-season Tigers sweep both SU and ATS. The total has gone OVER in three of the last four games between these two teams.
