MICHIGAN WOLVERINES VS. PURDUE BOILERMAKERS PREDICTIONS

The Wolverines have played with better consistency in recent weeks with four straight-up wins in their last five games. Yet at 5-4 SU in Big Ten play, Michigan is still playing well below expectations in conference play. With Tuesday’s six-point win over Nebraska as a heavy 15-point home favorite, the team improved to 11-8 SU overall.

Purdue continues to position itself for a possible Big Ten regular season title at 8-3 SU in conference play. It is just one game behind Illinois in the current standings. The Boilermakers bring a SU four-game winning streak into Saturday’s contest after beating Minnesota by 13 points on Tuesday closing as 11-point road favorites. They are 19-3 SU overall.

This appears to be a lost season for Michigan given its current record. While the Wolverines are starting to win the games they are supposed to, they simply cannot compete with the best teams in the Big Ten. That will be the case again as Purdue wins the first of this home-and-home series both SU and against the spread.

MICHIGAN WOLVERINES BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 11-8
  • ATS: 9-10
  • O/U: 12-7

The past four games paint the perfect picture of Michigan’s season. After beating Maryland, Indiana and Northwestern, the Wolverines were completely overwhelmed in an 83-67 road loss to Michigan State on Jan. 29. Going back to a road loss to Central Florida on Dec. 30, they are an even 4-4 SU and just 2-6 ATS. The total has gone OVER in seven of those eight games.

Center Hunter Dickinson led the way in Tuesday’s 85-79 victory against Nebraska with 26 points. He continues to lead the team in scoring this season with 17.5 points per game while pulling down a team-high 8.2 rebounds.

Guard Eli Brooks (11.8 points) and forward Caleb Houstan (10.5) are the other two Wolverines scoring in double figures this season. Brooks is shooting 42.2% from the field and 38% from three-point range as one of the team’s best shooters. You can add guard DeVante’ Jones (9.1 points) to that list with a 45.8 field-goal percentage.

Michigan has been able to average 72.9 PPG this season while shooting 47.3 from the field and 34.4% from three-point range. It is pulling down an average of 36.9 rebounds with 10 a game on offense. The Wolverines are allowing an average of 68.2 PPG.

PURDUE BOILERMAKERS BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 19-3
  • ATS: 12-10
  • O/U: 14-8

The Boilermakers three conference losses came against Rutgers in an early-season shocker and to Wisconsin at home and Indiana on the road. Since beating Nebraska at home on Jan. 14 by 27 points, Purdue is 5-2 ATS over its last seven games. The total has gone OVER in eight of its last 10 contests.

Guard Jaden Ivey had the hot hand in Wednesday’s 88-73 win against Minnesota with 21 points. His team-high scoring average this season is 17 PPG. Center Zach Edey was another key contributor to that win with 14 points and 12 rebounds to post the double-double.

Ivey is shooting 48% from the field and 43.6% from three-point range. Edey is second on the team in both points (15.0) and rebounds (7.5). Forward Trevion Williams tops the list for rebounds with 8.2 a game and guard Sasha Stefanovic is the team’s leader in assists with 3.8. Stefanovic has also converted on 42.1% of his team-high 145 attempts from beyond the three-point line.

Purdue is averaging 84.6 PPG as the fifth-highest scoring team in the nation. The Boilermakers have shot 50.7% from the field and 41.6% from three-point range. They are pulling down 40.2 rebounds a game and holding opposing teams to 68.4 PPG on defense.

MICHIGAN WOLVERINES VS. PURDUE BOILERMAKERS BETTING CONCLUSION

Over the past 10 meetings, Michigan has won seven of those games SU while going 9-1 ATS. However, that was then and this has been a night and day season for each of these teams. The Wolverines are basically riding out the string while the Boilermakers continue to fine-tune their game for a possible run at a national title.

The Wolverines will keep things somewhat competitive on Saturday but look for Purdue to pull away down the stretch to cover the current spread.
