KANSAS JAYHAWKS VS. TEXAS LONGHORNS PREDICTIONS

The Jayhawks made a statement with a 24-point victory over the Baylor Bears on Saturday, easily cashing as a 2.5-point favorite in the showdown as the UNDER connected for the third consecutive time. Kansas has covered in two straight outings after an 0-4 ATS slide from Jan. 18-29. It's the first time with covers in at least two in a row since a 3-0 ATS run from Dec. 3-11 against St. John's, UTEP and Missouri.

Kansas put on a defensive clinic, holding Baylor to a 30% showing from the field, while the Jayhawks hit 52% (32-of-62) of their shots. KU wasn't necessarily good from the perimeter, hitting just 25% (5-of-20), but they worked it inside and owned the paint with Ochai Agbaji and Christian Braun each going for a team-high 18 points, while combining for 19 rebounds. Kansas might have routed Baylor more if not for 14 turnovers, too.

Speaking of routs, Texas spanked fading Iowa State by a 63-41 count last time out on Saturday, holding the Cyclones to 29% (14-of-49) shooting, including just 13% (2-of-15) from downtown. Texas also turned it over just nine times to 18 for ISU, while outrebounding the 'Clones by a 34-to-28 margin. Marcus Carr went for 14 points, eight assists, five rebounds and a steal in 34 minutes.

KANSAS JAYHAWKS BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 19-3
  • ATS: 10-11-1
  • O/U: 13-9

Kansas had a couple of hiccups Jan. 8 at Texas Tech, and home against Kentucky Jan. 29, but it appears as it order has been restored with a couple of wins against ranked teams at Iowa State and home to Baylor. The Jayhawks won those two games by an average of 16.5 PPG while yielding just 60.0 PPG.

The Jayhawks get their first crack at the Longhorns this season. Texas swept the season series in 2020-21, including a shocking 84-59 win in Lawrence, while pushing past KU 75-72 in overtime in Austin on Feb. 23, 2021. The OVER cashed in each of the outings. Kansas is just 2-5-1 ATS in the past eight meetings, while the UNDER holds a 4-2 advantage in the past six.

Kansas has had problems stacking covers, going 1-4 ATS in the past five following a cover, and 1-4 ATS in the past five after a straight-up win, too. The Jayhawks are also 3-7-1 ATS in the past 11 road games against teams with a winning home record.

TEXAS LONGHORNS BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 17-6
  • ATS: 10-13
  • O/U: 9-14

The Longhorns have been grinding out low-scoring victories while using a tremendous brand of defense lately to get the job done. The Longhorns have allowed 41, 77, 51, 50 and 51 across the past five outings. The books have adjusted, setting their lines for Texas games in the low 120's, so whenever Texas is able to go high 60's or into the 70's for offense, the OVER tends to come in despite that strong defensive effort.

Texas has posted a 2-5 ATS mark across the past seven games overall, while going 2-5 ATS in the past seven against winning teams, too. The Longhorns are also 3-11 ATS in the past 14 home games against teams with a winning road mark, too.

For totals, the UNDER has cashed in four of the past five home games for Texas, although the OVER is 5-2 in the previous seven for the Longhorns following a straight-up victory.

The road team is 12-3-1 ATS in the past 16 meetings in this series. (AP)

KANSAS JAYHAWKS VS. TEXAS LONGHORNS BETTING CONCLUSION

I like what I've seen from the Longhorns lately, especially at the defensive end of the floor. They're making it very difficult on teams to score the basketball, especially in games at home. However, I really like what I've seen from the Jayhawks, too. They've dusted a pair of ranked teams in the past week, looking like not only a conference championship contender, but a national title contender after a couple of hiccups earlier in the month.

Kansas should be able to solve the Texas defense, and I think the Jayhawks will be able to keep up their good work at the defensive end of the floor. Look for the Jayhawks to ease past the Longhorns and really take the horns, pun totally intended, in the race for the top spot in the Big 12, building off of its rout of Baylor with another big win on the road.
