WAKE FOREST DEMON DEACONS VS. DUKE BLUE DEVILS PREDICTIONS

Wake Forest is coming off a 72-76 home loss to the Miami Hurricanes on Saturday night. The Demon Deacons shot over 50% from the field, making it the 14th time they’ve done so this season. Prior to the loss, Wake Forest had won three straight and seven of their last eight games. Wake Forest is currently fifth in the ACC with a 10-5 conference record, just 1.5 games behind Duke and North Carolina for first place.

The seventh ranked Duke Blue Devils find themselves on a two-game winning streak after defeating Boston College 72-61. Duke is now 6-1 on the road in conference play including five straight. The Blue Devils have looked great on both sides of the ball, scoring 79.9 PPG while only allowing 64.8 PPG. Duke is first in the ACC with a conference record of 11-3. This is without a doubt a team that has the talent to win the NCAA tournament this year.

In the first meeting between these two teams Duke won on the road, 76-64. While I do think Duke will win again, I see it being a closer game than the first meeting. A win for the Demon Deacons would more than likely put them in the top 25 and give them a solid chance to win the regular season ACC title. Riding that motivation and taking Wake Forest +11.

In the first meeting against Duke, Wake Forest allowed Duke to shoot 50% from the field and 46.7% from beyond the arc. They will have to do a better job of contesting shots or else things will get out of hand very quickly at Cameron Indoor.

The Blue Devil’s offense has looked great all season and have plenty of guys who can put points on the board. The key to the offense has been Paolo Banchero who is averaging 17 PPG, 8.7 RPG, and 2.6 APG. This is a team that has the talent to win the NCAA tournament this year.

Duke will look to replicate their first performance against Wake Forest when they held them to 12.5 3PT% and forced 15 turnovers. The Blue Devils will want to do a better job crashing the glass in this one as they did get outrebounded in the first matchup, 29-36.

Duke is without question the better team in this matchup, but I’m not sure the Demon Deacons are getting the respect they deserve here. In the first matchup against Duke, Wake Forest shot just 12.5 3PT%. I think they shoot much better than that Tuesday night and keep it close enough to cover. Demon Deacons +11.
