TCU HORNED FROGS vs. KANSAS JAYHAWKS PREDICTIONS

TCU stunned Kansas by 10 points as a six-point home underdog in Tuesday’s opener of this home-and-home series. This was just its second straight-up win against the Jayhawks over the past 10 meetings. The Horned Frogs have now won three of their last four games SU following a three-game skid. They are an even 8-8 SU in Big 12 play.

Ahead of Tuesday’s loss, Kansas came up short against Baylor on Feb. 26 in a 10-point road loss as a three-point underdog. The Jayhawks are now 12-4 SU in conference play with two games left to play. They would need to win both and hope Baylor (13-4) slips up against Iowa State to lockup the Big 12 regular season title.

There are a ton of reasons to bet on Kansas winning the rematch both SU and against the spread. At the top of my list is avoiding a troubling three-game losing streak heading into the postseason. The Jayhawks could have easily looked past Tuesday’s opener but the Horn Frogs have clearly gotten their attention for the rematch.

TCU HORNED FROGS BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 18-9
  • ATS: 15-9-3
  • O/U: 15-12

Give all the credit in the world to TCU for salvaging its season. Regardless of what happens in Thursday’s rematch, the Horned Frogs probably secured a spot in the NCAA Tournament with back-to-back upsets over Texas Tech and Kansas as home underdogs. They are now 4-0-1 ATS in their last five games with the total going OVER in three of those five contests.

Guard Mike Miles came up big for TCU in Tuesday’s win with 19 points and six assists in 35 minutes of playing time. This followed a 26-point effort in the 69-66 win against Texas Tech. He has been the team’s top scorer all season long with 15.4 points per game while shooting 38.6% from the field.

Forward Emanuel Miller (10.5 points) and guard Damion Baugh (10.4) are the other two players scoring in double figures this year. Miller leads the team in rebounds (6.3) and Baugh tops the list in assists (4.2).

The Horned Frogs are averaging 68.6 points and 39.4 rebounds a game. They are shooting 44% from the field but this number slides to 30% from three-point range. They are only shooting 66.7% from the free throw line. Defensively, TCU is allowing an average of 64.4 PPG.

KANSAS JAYHAWKS BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 23-5
  • ATS: 13-15
  • O/U: 16-10-2

The Jayhawks’ other two losses in conference play were against Texas Tech and Texas on the road. They are 7-0 SU at home and 3-1 ATS in their last three home games in Big 12 play. The total has stayed UNDER in three of their last five games overall. The total has gone OVER or ended as a PUSH in 18 of 29 games this season.

Motivation to avenge Tuesday’s loss aside, Kansas remains one of the top teams in the nation this season. Playing to form, Thursday’s rematch should not stay close past the first 20 minutes of play. Guards’ Ochai Agbaji (20.1 points) and Christian Braun (15.1 points) remain the team’s top two scorers while each shooting lights out from the field.

Forward David McCormick (9.7) points leads Kansas in rebounds (7.2) and guard Dajuan Harris Jr. is dishing out 4.4 assists per game. The combination of bigtime players and a deep bench makes the Jayhawks a legitimate national title contender. That ability should be on full display in front of Thursday night’s home-town crowd.

A few other key stats include the Jayhawks’ 79.1-point scoring average with 37.3 rebounds a game. They are shooting 48.7% from the field and 36.3% from three points range. Defensively, Kansas has a points-allowed average of 68.8 as the team’s only real weakness.

TCU HORNED FROGS vs. KANSAS JAYHAWKS BETTING CONCLUSION

There is a slight chance that TCU plays well above its ability again on Thursday but I would not bet on it. You can rest assured that a veteran head coach like Bill Self will have his team ready to go for the backend of this home-and-home.

Despite Kansas dominating this series over the past several series, it is all tied up at 5-5 ATS in the last 10 meetings. That trend can be heavily discounted with another SU win that does cover the current spread.

TCU HORNED FROGS vs. KANSAS JAYHAWKS BETTING TRENDS

  • TCU has covered the spread in six of its last eight road games.
  • Kansas has failed to cover the spread in eight of its last 13 games.
  • TCU has covered the spread in four of its last five games.
