Texas Rangers vs. Seattle Mariners Betting Predictions

The Rangers are off to a brutal start to the season with a record of 2-8 and a four-game losing streak prior to Wednesday’s game. The offense has struggled, scoring no more than three runs in three straight games. The pitching has been even worse than the offense with a current team ERA of 6.24. Left-handed pitcher Tony Hearn will take the mound for the Rangers. Hearn is 0-1 this season in two games and has allowed 14 hits, four earned runs, and has struck out 10 batters in 7.2 innings pitched.

After losing four of six games to start the season, Seattle has managed to turn things around, winning four of their last five. The offense has been flowing with five runs or more scored in four of their last five games. The pitching has been just as good, holding opponents to two runs or less in five of their six wins thus far. The leftie Marco Gonzales is expected to take the mound Thursday. Gonzales is 1-1 in two games this season and has allowed 10 hits, three runs, and struck out seven batters in 9.0 innings pitched.

It’s tough to find any reason not to back the Mariners here. Seattle has been hot, winning four of their last five prior to Wednesday's game. Meanwhile the Rangers have been ice cold and cannot find ways to score runs. Until the Rangers can turn things around, I think Seattle is the smart play here. The total is set for 8, which is a bit low for me to play here. I would play the over, but the under has hit in four of the last six  meetings between these teams.

Texas Rangers Betting Analysis

Through 10 games the Rangers are 2-8 SU, 3-7 ATS, and have an O/U record of 6-2-2. The total has gone over in four of Texas’s last five games and four of their last five on the road. The Rangers are just 1-6 in their last seven games and have struggled in the past when playing on the road against Seattle, with a SU record of 2-17 in their last 19.

Texas has struggled to get anything going offensively this season. As a team the Rangers have a batting average of .235 (13th), on base percentage of .310 (15th), slugging percentage of .357 (13th), and have scored 51 total runs (12th). The first baseman Nathaniel Lowe has had a decent start with a batting average of .359 (14-39) and six RBI’s. Shortstop Corey Seager has provided some production as well with a batting average of .289 (11-38), one HR, and seven RBI’s.

The Rangers pitching are still in search of their first quality start after 10 games. As a team they are allowing opponents a batting average of .287 (30th), have an ERA of 6.24 (30th), and have allowed 65 total runs (65). During Tuesday’s loss Texas used four different pitchers. Starter Jon Gray went 5.0 innings and gave up three hits and four runs. The other three pitchers allowed a combine four hits and two runs. Left-handed pitcher Tony Hearn will take the mound for the Rangers. Hearn is 0-1 this season in two games and has allowed 14 hits, four earned runs, and has struck out 10 batters in 7.2 innings pitched.

Seattle Mariners Betting Analysis

After 11 games this season the Mariners are 6-5 SU, 7-4 ATS, and have an O/U record of 5-6. The total has gone over in four of Seattle’s last six games. Going against this trend, the total has gone under in four of their last six games against the Rangers. Seattle has had plenty of success in the past against the Rangers, going 17-2 SU int their last 19 meetings with Texas.

The Mariners have been scoring plenty of runs as of late, with 24 runs scored over the past four games prior to Wednesday's game. As a team Seattle has a batting average of .217 (21st), on base percentage of .311 (13th), slugging percentage of .378 (15th), and have scored 45 total runs (18th). Texas Rangers vs. Seattle Mariners Betting Conclusion

I like the Mariners moneyline here at –145. Rangers are in a slump and Seattle is the hot team, is what it really comes down to. At some point the Rangers will start winning baseball games, but until that time comes, I have to bet against them. As mentioned before, the total is a bit low for me to play, but I would have to lean towards the over if I were to wager on it. Sticking with Seattle at –145 here.
