Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Diego Padres Betting Predictions

The Dodgers are coming off a three-game series with the Braves. Los Angeles won game one and three while losing game two. Prior to the series against Atlanta, the Dodgers had won six straight games. During those six games Los Angeles scored 40 runs while allowing opponents just nine runs. The Dodgers have not announced a starter for Saturday’s game yet with Andrew Heaney not being able to take the mound because of a shoulder injury. There is a good chance Tyler Anderson will take his spot in the rotation. Anderson is 1-0 this season with an ERA of 2.25 and has allowed four hits, two earned runs, and struck out eight batters in 8.0 innings of work.

The Padres dominated Cincinnati in their most recent series, winning three games to zero. San Diego put up 16 runs throughout the series while allowing the Reds just three runs. Prior to Friday’s game the Padres are on a current four-game winning streak, which makes it the second time they have won four in a row this season. Right-handed pitcher Yu Darvish is scheduled to take the mound Saturday. Darvish is 1-1 in three games this season with an ERA of 6.28 and has given up 12 hits, 10 earned runs, and struck out 13 batters in 14.1 innings of work.

I like the Dodgers in this matchup. It’s tough to bet against Los Angeles with the talent they have in their lineup. I think Yu Darvish will struggle in this one, similar to his start against San Francisco when he allowed eight hits and nine runs in 1.2 innings. Expect the Dodgers to have another big day and take care of business on Saturday. Backing Dodgers moneyline.

Los Angeles Dodgers Betting Analysis

After 12 games the Dodgers are 9-3 SU, 9-3 ATS, and have an O/U record of 4-7-1. Los Angeles is 8-1 SU in their last nine games and 9-0 SU in their last nine games against the Padres. The total has gone under in four of the Dodgers last six games. Following this trend, the total has gone under in eight of the Dodgers last 12 road games going back to last season.

Los Angeles is hitting the ball extremely well to start the season. As a team the Dodgers have a batting average of .254 (6th), on base percentage of .338 (5th), slugging percentage of .405 (5th), and have scored 64 runs (5th). The first baseman Freddie Freeman has been great in his first season as a Dodger with a batting average of .333 (16-48), two home-runs, and seven RBIs. Shortstop Trea Turner has also been productive with a batting average of .292 (14-48), one home run, and 10 RBIs.

The Dodgers pitching has arguably been the best in baseball this season. As a team they are allowing opponents a batting average of .194 (2nd), have an ERA of 2.38 (1st), and have given up 32 runs (1st). The Dodgers sent three different pitchers to the mound in their recent win over the Braves. Starter Tony Gonsolin lasted 6.0 innings and gave up one hit and zero runs. The other two pitchers gave up a combined two hits and one run.

San Diego Padres Betting Analysis

Prior to Friday night’s game the Padres are 9-5 SU, 9-5 ATS, and have an O/U record of 4-10. The Padres are 4-1 SU in their last five games. San Diego has struggled in recent past when playing at home against the Dodgers, with a SU record of 6-14 in their last 20 home games against LA. The total has gone under in five of San Diego’s last six home games. Going against this trend, the total has gone over in four of their last five games against the Dodgers.

San Diego has been putting their bats to work recently, with 18 runs scored over their last four games. As a team the Padres have a batting average of .230 (15th), on base percentage of .330 (7th), slugging percentage of .369 (15th), and have scored 61 runs (9th). The third baseman Manny Machado has led the way for San Diego with a batting average of .358 (19-53), three home runs, and 10 RBIs. First baseman Eric Hosmer has been solid as well with a batting average of .378 (17-45), zero home runs, and five RBIs.

San Diego’s pitching has had a couple of rough games, but have been consistent for the most part. As a team the Padres are allowing opponents a batting average of .200 (3rd), have an ERA of 3.12 (10th), and have allowed 43 runs (6th).  In their recent win over the Reds, the Padres used five different pitchers. Starter Mackenzie Gore went 5.0 innings and gave up four hits and zero runs. The other four pitchers gave up a combined one hit and zero runs. The right-hander Yu Darvish is expected to take the mound Saturday. Darvish is 1-1 in three games this season with an ERA of 6.28 and has given up 12 hits, 10 earned runs, and struck out 13 batters in 14.1 innings of work.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Diego Padres Betting Conclusion

Los Angeles has been excellent on both offense and defense to start the season. The Padres have been good as well, but the Dodgers seem to be on a different level than the rest of the teams in the league. I think Yu Darvish will have a rough day for the Padres and expect the Dodgers bullpen to do what they have been doing all season, which is keeping opponents runs to a minimum. Backing Los Angeles moneyline in this matchup.
