Chicago enters this matchup third in the AL Central standings, five games behind the Minnesota Twins for first place. The White Sox went 2-2 SU in their most recent series with Detroit and have won six of their last 10 games. After being one of the favorites to win the World Series, Chicago is having a disappointing season. Their offense and bullpen have both been mediocre at best. The offense averages 4.28 runs per game (19th) while the bullpen has a team ERA of 4.08 (21st). The White Sox have had moments where it looks like they have figured things out, but then go on a three-game losing streak. It simply has not been their season. The right-hander Lance Lynn (1-1, 5.53 ERA) is expected to take the mound for the White Sox Monday.  

Cleveland is currently second in the AL Central standings, four and a half games behind the Minnesota Twins for first place. The Guardians most recently went 1-2 SU in a series with the Kansas City Royals and have lost eight of their last 10 games. The offense has averaged just 3.8 runs per game over that stretch, well below their season average of 4.31 runs per game (22nd). Cleveland’s bullpen has been offal over their last 10, allowing opponents 5.7 runs per game. This is well above their season ERA of 4.01 (19th). Right-handed pitcher Cal Quantrill (4-5, 3.86 ERA) is scheduled to start for Cleveland Monday.  

While Chicago has not been playing great, they have been the much better team as of late. Cleveland’s bullpen has allowed too many runs over their last 10 and I expect them to be no better in game-one against the White Sox. Lynn does not have many starts under his belt which is concerning, but I will back the Sox here as the Guardians need to figure out their bullpen struggles.
