Chicago White Sox vs. Cleveland Guardians Picks, Predictions, Odds

Chicago White Sox vs. Cleveland Guardians Betting Analysis

The Guardians host the White Sox in the first contest of a four-game set at Progressive Field on Monday, July 11, 2022.

The White Sox are currently in third place in the American League Central standings with a 41-43 record. Away from Guaranteed Rate Field, Chicago owns a 22-18 mark. Chicago sits five games behind the Minnesota Twins for the top spot in the division. Cleveland falls second in the American League Central standings with a record of 41-42 overall and 20-17 at home, which puts them 4.5 games back for the division lead.

Chicago White Sox vs. Cleveland Guardians Betting Prediction

Chicago enters this matchup third in the AL Central standings, five games behind the Minnesota Twins for first place. The White Sox went 2-2 SU in their most recent series with Detroit and have won six of their last 10 games. After being one of the favorites to win the World Series, Chicago is having a disappointing season. Their offense and bullpen have both been mediocre at best. The offense averages 4.28 runs per game (19th) while the bullpen has a team ERA of 4.08 (21st). The White Sox have had moments where it looks like they have figured things out, but then go on a three-game losing streak. It simply has not been their season. The right-hander Lance Lynn (1-1, 5.53 ERA) is expected to take the mound for the White Sox Monday.

Cleveland is currently second in the AL Central standings, four and a half games behind the Minnesota Twins for first place. The Guardians most recently went 1-2 SU in a series with the Kansas City Royals and have lost eight of their last 10 games. The offense has averaged just 3.8 runs per game over that stretch, well below their season average of 4.31 runs per game (22nd). Cleveland’s bullpen has been offal over their last 10, allowing opponents 5.7 runs per game. This is well above their season ERA of 4.01 (19th). Right-handed pitcher Cal Quantrill (4-5, 3.86 ERA) is scheduled to start for Cleveland Monday.

While Chicago has not been playing great, they have been the much better team as of late. Cleveland’s bullpen has allowed too many runs over their last 10 and I expect them to be no better in game-one against the White Sox. Lynn does not have many starts under his belt which is concerning, but I will back the Sox here as the Guardians need to figure out their bullpen struggles.

In the second contest against the Kansas City Royals on Saturday, the Cleveland Guardians were in their best form in the last seven games, keeping the Kansas City Royals at only one run.

The second of three matches on Saturday marked an 13-run effort by Cleveland against the Kansas City Royals, which was their best performance this week.

He comes in 1-1 with a 5.33 ERA, a 1.33 WHIP, seven walks and 26 strikeouts over 27 innings of work on the year. In Lance Lynn’s last start, the White Sox were no match for the Minnesota Twins, losing 9-8 on July 6, 2022. The 35-year-old earned no decision in this game, having tossed five innings and yielded five runs on six hits, while striking out four and issuing two walks. Lynn owns a 0-0 road record this season in two starts away from Guaranteed Rate Field. In those away outings, he has posted a 2.61 ERA, a 1.45 WHIP, two walks, and nine strikeouts in 10.1 innings of work.

Quantrill also posted a 1.30 WHIP, while striking out 55 and walking 27 batters in 88.2 innings this season. Quantrill lost his most recent start against the Detroit Tigers, as Cleveland’s right-hander surrendered six runs on eight hits, two walks, and four strikeouts during the Guardians’ 11-4 road loss on July 5, 2022. In eight home starts this season, Quantrill has compiled a 3-0 record in 50 innings, while striking out 33, walking 13 batters, and putting together a 3.24 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP.
