Prior to the results of Tuesday night’s game, Toronto enters this matchup second in the AL East standings, 10 and a half games behind the New York Yankees for first place. The Yankees may be too far ahead for the Blue Jays to catch but Toronto is atop the AL Wild Card standings, so making the postseason is still in the picture. Toronto lost game one of this series and are 5-5 SU over their last 10 games. The offense has been great this season with a team batting average of .265 (1st), on base percentage of .328 (4th), slugging percentage of .437 (4th), and 525 total runs scored (4th). The Blue Jay’s bullpen has been mediocre throughout the season with a team ERA of 3.92 (18th) and WHIP of 1.24 (11th). The right-hander Jose Berrios (8-4, 5.19 ERA) is scheduled to take the mound Wednesday.  

The Orioles are currently fourth in the AL East standings, 13 and a half games behind the New York Yankees for first place. Despite being fourth in the division, Baltimore is still very much in the postseason conversation as they are just one game behind Seattle for the third AL Wild Card spot. The Orioles took game one of this series and have won seven of their last 10 games. The offense has averaged 4.2 runs per game over that stretch, right on par with their season average of 4.22 runs per game. Baltimore’s bullpen has been solid as well, allowing opponents 3.4 runs per game over their last 10, a bit better than their season ERA of 3.88 (13th). Right-handed pitcher Dean Kremer (4-3, 3.43 ERA) is expected to start for the Orioles Wednesday.  

I like the value in backing the Orioles in this matchup. Kremer is coming off a scoreless six inning outing against the Pirates and could see similar success in this matchup. Berrios was quite the opposite in his most recent outing, giving up five runs in 3.2 innings to the Minnesota Twins. Not to mention, Baltimore has won 19 of their last 26 home games. Backing the Orioles as it offers the best value here.
