New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox Betting Analysis

The Yankees will visit the Red Sox at Fenway Park for the first of a three-game set on Friday, August 12, 2022.

The Yankees currently lead the American League East with a record of 71-41. However, New York has struggled away from Yankee Stadium, highlighted by their 30-26 mark on the road. Boston is currently positioned fifth in the American League East standings with records of 55-58 overall and 27-29 at home, putting the Red Sox 16.5 games back for the division lead.

New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox Betting Prediction

New York enters this matchup atop the AL East standings, 10.0 games ahead of the second place Toronto Blue Jays. The Yankees have been in a bit of a slump as of late, losing two of three to the Mariners in their most recent series and losing eight of their last 10 games. While this may be alarming to some teams, New York has too much talent for them not to bounce back sooner than later. The offense ranks third in on base percentage (.330), second in slugging percentage (.442), and first in total runs scored (1st). The Yankees bullpen has been just as good with a team ERA of 3.30 (3rd) and a WHIP of 1.11 (3rd). The right-hander Domingo German (1-2, 5.09 ERA) is scheduled to start for New York on Friday.

Boston is currently last in the AL East standings, 16.5 games behind the New York Yankees for first place. The Red Sox managed a win over the Orioles on Thursday but have not been playing good baseball this season and have lost six of their last 10 games. The offense has been mediocre throughout the season with a batting average of .253 (7th), on base percentage of on base percentage of .314 (16th), slugging percentage of .410 (12th), and 508 total runs scored (10th). Boston’s bullpen has been their biggest downfall with a team ERA of 4.44 (25th) and WHIP of 1.33 (24th). Right-handed pitcher Nathan Eovaldi (5-3, 4.23 ERA) is expected to take the mound Friday.

The Yankees are 6-4 SU against the Red Sox this season. I think that trend continues and New York wins game one of this series. German has seen limited action this season, which is a bit concerning, but he has improved in every one of his five starts and most recently held the Cardinals to four hits and one run in 5.0 innings of work. Backing the Yankees moneyline here as I expect New York to get things right in this series.

Score Prediction: Yankees 5, Red Sox 4
Best Bet: Yankees ML (-115)
